I was happy to see a new book by S Young. Loved the Dublin St series so much, I have re-read some more than once.
This book is...a train wreck. At first, I was drawn in by the young heroine busking on the streets of a Scottish city to make enough to feed herself, and get by being homeless. But then as details began to emerge about the heroine...I absolutely lost sympathy for her.
She's already been a musical star. She's actually wealthy--fabulously wealthy. Yet she's living homeless in a foreign country, courting starvation, rape and the other disasters that await homeless kids.
So, she must be running from the law, right? Erm, nope. She's just ...heck, I don't know. All I know is, at this point I lost all sympathy. The author did not give me any reason to feel compassion or curiosity for why she is doing this to herself.
Hero: Completely uninteresting. Colorless. A guy in a suit, who wants to make money. Uh, yeah? What's different about him? What's even a tiny bit attractive about him?
