More Rescue Smiles by Tamira Thayne
What a heartwarming and inspiring book! The author is the founder of Dogs Deserve Better and started the anti-tethering movement in the hope of abolishing the cruel practice of tethering dogs. The book tells rescue stories written by different people who helped rescue and restore to health dogs, cats, pigs, cows, horses, even a turtle and a pigeon. One of the sections I found most interesting was the benefit service and assistance animals are to people suffering from MS, depression, and to children in therapy. The isolation MS gave her was dissolved when passer-bys stopped to talk to her rescue dog. As the co-author of Caregiver's Survival Guide, I wish I had read that beautiful story before writing the Guide as I would have included it. The story reminded me how passer-bys stop and admire my daughter's golden retriever, a positive doggy rock star! The rescued animal turns out to be the rescuer. I recommend this book to all animal lovers and to schools where children will be inspired to reach out and help an animal in need.
