It seems I have found another wonderful author! Based on other reviews, I believed I would be reading a "clean" romantic fiction book, which it was. I normally like to read fiction that reinforces my walk will the Lord, so I almost didn't buy his one. Believe it or not, it was the cover that attracted me - the rich colors for some reason. Anyway, am so glad I decided to read it! The author is obviously a believer, though that was not as upfront in this book as some, perhaps. Still, I loved her writing. Itn captured me quickly, and kept me interested. It was predictable to some degree, but not negatively. I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I will be looking for further books by this author, for sure.
Once again, Ms. Lorana Hoopes has written a heart-warming story, one of second chances, with imperfect people, strong characters, and new beginnings. The story has the good, the bad, and even the ugly, but has a lesson of love and the coveted happily ever after ending. By the end, I was crying happy tears. The story is a part of the Second Chance With You series but each story, written by various authors, are completely stand-alone and can be read in any order. The story is a clean, contemporary second chance romance, and while there is mention of God, it isn’t preachy.
High school sweethearts, Dillion Fields, and Kaitlyn Ball find that sometimes each has different dreams. While Kaitlyn wanted to go to school to become a designer, she had also dreamed of her and Dillion marrying and having a family, something they casually discussed while dating. Dillion, on the other hand, wanted to go out and see the world, and that is what he does, leaving Kaitlyn behind.
The plot will have many flashbacks of high school and memories of Dillion and Kaitlyn throughout the story as various things play out. It is now ten years since high school and Margie Fields has contacted Kaitlyn about updating the main room at the family lodge for a travel magazine cover shoot. Margie also assures her that Dillion has no intention of coming home for Christmas, so Kaitlyn will accept the assignment which will be good for her business.
Dillion isn’t happy with his life lately, even his latest girlfriend, Shana, a model, leaves him feeling empty and when she doesn’t want to go to Colorado and meet his family for Christmas, he goes without her. What a shock to come home for Christmas and see Kaitlyn working for his mother on redoing a room. He realizes that for ten years he has compared every woman to Kaitlyn, and none live up to her. But, after ten years, what has become of her?
The story is an emotional roller coaster ride of memories, regrets, being cautious, and reconnecting. It has one person that leaves both Kaitlyn and Dillion uncomfortable about, but one they try to ignore. Kaitlyn’s son, Jack, is a precious and well-behaved five-year-old that at times steals your heart as little boys can do. Being together, talking of the past, of the mistakes, and the future all play out. Kaitlyn must protect her son, and what comes of her and Dillion must include Jack.
“The man she had once loved and thought she had lost, but that God had placed back in her life. Could they make a go of this? Would he stay in Colorado or disappear again? Would Jack be okay if Dillion were in their life?”
As Kaitlyn and Dillion try to reconnect, there is trouble in the works. Is someone trying to keep them apart and what is their motive? The story has a bit of mystery and suspense within this clean second chance romance.
“I want to believe you, I do, but in the last ten years, I’ve learned words are cheap. Actions are what matter.”
Love Renewed is the second book in the Second Chance With You Series. As the series title suggest, the book is about reconciling after several years of being apart. Unfortunately, it’s so hard to forgive the “One” who broke your heart. As usual, Ms. Hoopes has written another great book. It’s a pleasure to read a book that is well written and clean. The characters are personable; the setting is the Colorado Mountains; and the road to romance has a few potholes, Add a mystery and you have Love Renewed,
This is now the 11th book that I have read and posted a review from this author. I love her books. However, I would have to say that this book, Love Renewed, is the best one of hers I have read by far. It was so good. I am glad that it had some length to it; because I enjoyed reading it so much. All of the characters were so well fleshed out and such an important part of this book, especially Jack, Kaitlyn Bell's little 5 year old son. His Mother Kaitlyn and long time love, Dillon Fields were very good and I liked their parts. Kaitlyn's friend Melody was a good in this book and I can see her own book coming in the future. Also Dillon's Mother Margie and her friend Dan the Policeman that assisted Dillon to find out what was going on with Julian and learn his identity. I think Margie and Dan will get their own book in the future too.
5 stars I purchased a copy of Second Chance With You book 2:Love Renewed by Lorana Hoopes and this review was given freely. A blend of two sweet second chance at love Christian romances with a sinister undertone. Recently divorced and single mom interior decorator Kaitlyn is wary of men since her abusive ex-husband and losing her high school sweetheart Dillion 10 years ago. When she agrees to redecorate Dillon's mother's lodge at Christmastime she receives more attention than she bargained for. Realistic characters including a cute five year old boy, an extroverted best friend, and an interfering mother provide humor and drama while balancing out the topics of abuse and the odd feelings Kaitlyn gets when around Jullian.
My fifteenth read from amazing/prolific Christian author Lorana Hoopes. No matter what genre she writes in the story is always excellent. If there's a problem it's that the stories are often so short. You want them longer so you can enjoy them for a longer time. This particular story was one of the longer ones & the length allowed more in-depth plot development & suspense, thus even more enjoyment! (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
Dillion had lost each other when he went to see the world. Kaitlyn is a decorator now, 10 years later. Dillons mother asks her to help remodel the family’s lodge. She says Dillon won’t be there. But fate steps in to make sure he is. Watch as sparks fly once again. There are some twists and turns along the way but this book has a HEA ending. Loved this book.
I love stories about second chances, and love, and Christmas! This story has all of that and more. Old high school sweethearts with years and experiences that have left them with doubts about loving again - and they get another chance. But can they move past those doubts. Great characters, and a story that makes us feel that we're right there with them.
