After coming across an interview with this author I was intrigued by her healthcare/scientific background and process of using scientific journals as a basis for her material. As a fellow healthcare/science professional I can really appreciate someone who geeks out over research and healthcare - tie that with my love for a good page turning novel and - I knew I had to read this book.
Resistant has is set in a dystopian future state, where human race is facing a crisis due to antibiotic resistance which is not so hard to believe (i.e. super bugs). I was instantly drawn to the main character, Aroura, a smart, lovable tom boy, who is holed up with her dad on a farm, just working to survive the hard times facing the human race due to the superbugs (aka infections) wreaking havoc on humanity. The plot is packed with action as Rory and her father work to fight both the superbugs and corruption happening in their world. This is such a unique blend of page turning fiction, and a real life crisis we are on the edge of in medicine - antibiotic resistance. Highly recommend!
