Stephen Fry's reading of Victorians' Secrets is absolutely and utterly delightful! Naughty and nice! I am fascinated by the Victorian Age, and it is nice to know they were not any different than we are!
Can not fault the content, very detailed and fascinating information but the sound quality is awful. Unacceptable that a company the size of Amazon can get something so basic so wrong
4.0 out of 5 starsInformative view of the Victorian Age.

I enjoyed listening to this audio book. Steven Fry is an interesting narrator. I was fascinated by the information presented and learned a lot about life in the 19th century.
3.0 out of 5 starsinteresting material delivered in an unfortunately blithe manner

I'm very torn about this book. The range of subject matter is very interesting. It includes a variety of topics, such as race, religion and sexuality, through the lens of the Victorian Era. However, I was uncomfortable with the lurid manner in which these subjects were approached and the over-the-top almost taunting way in which they were discussed. These are/were real people and their lives and troubles were not a joke to them and should not be put forth as a joke for our own curiosity and entertainment. Though I thought the research was good and the topic one worthy of discussion, listening to Stephen Fry's Victorian Secrets with its sometimes silly sound effects and condescending narrative made me feel like on the the freak show attendees the book covers.
4.0 out of 5 starsQuite fun listen about the unmentioned parts of Victorian life.

This audiobook was an entertaining and informative listen narrated by the incomparable Stephen Fry. His wit, humor, and charm are easily conveyed to us listeners. The actual content is quite enjoyable, ranging from the history of the washroom, to infamous female criminals, to the sexual appetites of the time period, and much more. Chapters are short and concise, but engaging and interesting. Would recommend for those with an interest in the time period and any who enjoy Stephen Fry's performances.
I love Stephen Fry, so his narration, plus the promise of salacious stories from the buttoned up and proper Victorian Era, is what made we want to listen to it. Fry is brilliant all the way around, as a historian and actor.
