3.0 out of 5 stars Decent Tale for a Commute to Work, BUT...

To be honest, I read this and still don’t know how to fully explain my thoughts and feelings.

Certainly there were humorous bits. There also were some facts strewn in, along with the typical musings from both sides concerning the debate over global warming. Trouble is, most of the musings by characters was rather simple-minded. But, just as disconcerting was that none of it seemed to matter in the end.

BLUSH FACTOR: No eff-words, but there is a little mild cussing.

OTHER POINTS: Get the free accompanying Audible Edition. The narration is professional and improves the palatability.

BOTTOM LINE

Three stars out of five. There just isn’t anything compelling. It is, though, good enough for a commute to and from work.

3.0 out of 5 stars Smart People, Stupid Choices! Ugh!

An "Animal House" disaster story of environmental scientists caught in a freak winter storm in Mississippi. Too many "causes," too few solutions as a mix of supposedly "smart" people consort in a series self-destructive and dysfunctional behaviors in a downward spiral amid their attitudes of doom and gloom. Yikes!

When everything's important, then nothing is!!

This short story parodies the emotional and overheated global dialogue surrounding climate change initiatives and perceptions, exposing the the hopeless fatigue from too many cacophonous voices that produce no meaningful results. Ugh!

Hated the story, but appreciated the message, a wakeup call and reality check to why so many good intentions fall apart. It all comes down to survival.

Didn't care for any of the characters or the self-defeating dialogues that Jess Walter created in this first installment of the "Warner" collection. This time, my short escape read failed me, and I quickly found myself wanting to quickly get back to the monotony of work, so I didn't have to think about what I just read and the "dead end" where my reading had taken me. Not good!

Still, after the shock had worn off, the ironic meanings because clearer, or at least I convinced myself I hadn't wasted my time. Regardless of your environmental position, this short read likely will push lots of your "hot buttons," making you uncomfortable.

Suggest adding the free Audible narration to get you through the storytelling with some added character dramatics. A nice support!

Although I've become a fan of these short exploratory reading adventures, I'm desperately hoping the rest of the Warmer collection adds differing experiences.

The juxtaposition of environmental issues and gay rights creates a smart book that reminds us of issues being talked about on a daily basis.

I love Jess Walter. I have been waiting, seemingly forever, for his next novel.
This story reminds me why I'm such a fan.

A terrible book, one that tried to throw everything into a short story, with not everything even fitting. Poorly written as well, I could excuse the lame story line if the writing was at least interesting
