The writing is in 1st person, which was the first problem with this story. The author uses a piteous sarcasm insertion method to try to win the audience with "wit". Rather, it comes across as two-bit writing quality. Unworthy of a sequel, as the technical description of SciFi-related prose is so obtuse and disorganized.
I just can't get into this book. And it's a shame because I really want to. I really like the premise, I like sci-fi, I even like really weird sci-fi, but this just couldn't do it for me.
My first problem was that I felt the author told me more than showed me what was going on, which resulted in a lot of confusion for me. Even after reading and re-reading the suit section several times, I still couldn't get a clear picture in my head of what it was or what it did. It apparently had multiple personalities that could project its thoughts on others? A lot of the descriptions were too simple, and yet too vague for me to fully grasp what the author wanted me to see.
Because of the rapid pace of the book, I couldn't really feel an emotional connection to what was going on. Now don't get me wrong, I like fast-paced books, but there is such a thing as going TOO fast. There wasn't much buildup to the overall plot of the book. Things just happened, and I tried my best to roll with it. There were some parts where the author shows his personality (I say the narrator is the author because they both share the same name, and I don't think that's a coincidence) that made me laugh. I did like some of the dialogue, especially his back and forth with Betty (the suit . . . which is still hard to picture, but regardless). I also thought the parts with Loved One were also really sweet.
Another reason why I had a hard time getting into it was that there were a LOT of errors in this book, and it seemed to be on every other page. Not sure if it turned out that way because of the formatting (which is also all over the place, making some sections harder to read than others) or if there wasn't as much editing done on the book. Not gonna lie, there were a couple of times I wondered if this was just a first draft. It has a lot of potential to be a really good, really fun sci-fi adventure story with quirky characters and heart-stopping action scenes. But because of the way it's told and because of all the errors, I found myself unable to enjoy it as much as I wanted to.
I can see why people would like it. It's a fast, easy read if you can get past the parts that I couldn't. I usually like to give authors second chances to grab me with their work, and this book didn't completely put me off on the author's style, so I'm willing to read more of his work to see if it's my cup of tea.
I try to be as fair as possible and focus on good things about a book, but I cannot with this one. I barely made it through this story. I don't know how much I can tell you about the story because I was far too distracted by all of the typos, change of tense, strange fourth-wall breaking, and break-neck pacing. I am not sure that this book was edited at all. The premise was actually promising, so I am thoroughly disappointed. For those of you who can look past all of this, perhaps you should give it a try.

I'm a sci-fi fan and this fit the bill! The writing is crisp and humorous. At the same time, the author kept me guessing with fast pacing and snappy dialog. The book could do with a fresh set of eyes to clean up some formatting issues, but it's an enjoyable read. Good world building and strong character development.
5.0 out of 5 starsSave yourself from boredom and buy it

Great story and I agree with other reviews - this one is definitely a fast paced book. However, it's real page turner too. I finished it in a weekend after getting a copy at the Expo in Vegas. It kept my attention completely while the wife was shopping and saved me from a very boring afternoon. With a good book in hand shopping with the woman wasn't bad. I had a hard time understanding the mask concept at first but then figured it out eventually.
