I was entertained and impressed by the first volume in this series, and very pleased that this second book maintains the first book's energy levels and upbeat action, and continues to make good use of the engaging characters we met the first time around. They develop and grow, and we have a few fun additions to the cast in order to keep things fresh.
But here's maybe the most helpful comment. After reading book one I passed it on to the twelve year old granddaughter for some summer camp reading. She was delighted by the book, and she's usually more of a fan of realistic and dramatic fiction. The reception was so positive I sprang for this second volume. She was actually excited and began to read it as soon as it landed in her hands. She is now as happy as a clam as she follows the further adventures of the gang. I can't think of a better recommendation than that.
