I bought this because I live in the area where the stories are set. Whilst it was great to read and go "I know that place", this was tempered by the fact that the characters are 2 dimensional (at most). The protagonists are mostly 20 somethings and the author just doesn't manage to make you believe in them. My guess is that she is trying to be "down with the kids" but the result is dialogue and characterisation that is stunningly stilted and off.
I live in the area and thought I would enjoy reading a hopefully gripping book. What a disappointment. The pace was slow and very boring. It had the style of being written by a teenager and the characters in general were rather lack lustre. The constant use of the expletive "s***" made me wonder if this was all the author knew. I could not bring myself to read the book again to count up how many times this was used. No I will not be recommending this book or even admitting I read it! I feel I cannot rate it any stars at all but since this is required to submit a review it has to be one star

I was keen to read this book as I have never read a book when I have met the Author. I wasn't sure at first I thought it maybe more for teen readers but actually I soon realised this was not the case. I enjoyed the fact the book was set locally and liked recognising the area. I enjoyed the strengthening of the characters and felt I knew the main three by the end. I am certainly going to read the next two books. I have recommended the kindle edition to friends. Well Done Pauline keep going especially with your enthusiasm.
Great first book. Well developed, exciting plot with well rounded characters. Full of amusing incident and subtle humour. A good easy read well worthwhile picking up. I just had to stay up to finish the book. What will they get up to next? I look forward to finding out.
Well done on publishing Utterly Explosive on Amazon. I have just finished reading it and have enjoyed it. I do like the way you use the apprenticeships as a means of introducing a wider variety of characters, yet they are all still interconnected. Is the next one in the series in the 'pipeline'? As a wannabe Writer myself I know how hard it is to keep the momentum going, and this book moved on at a good pace."
