This book caught me by surprise. I expected an academic approach explaining the importance of therapy. Instead I was immediately engaged by the story and stories; artfully written, poignantly expressed. I gained new and unexpected insights into, and a deeper understanding of the hard and miraculous work of therapy. I have since shared it with many friends. Tuya has opened the heart of the therapist to us as well as capture the hesitation and fear of the client.
I wish I had this book 20 years ago. Reading it then would have saved me many years of ineffective counseling and lots of time and money. As Tuya leads us through examples of counseling and asks us to consider essential life questions for self examination, she gives the reader an incredible insight into what excellent counseling looks like and dispenses the mystery of what to expect behind the counselor's door.
