I did not finish the book. I tried because I paid for it. I saw all the positive reviews and bought it even though I have KU. I got to 80% and finally said I’m done. I really enjoyed the first book. Love the author’s wit and humor. There were holes in the storyline but I really felt that the second book would be better in that regard.
I was wrong.
The problem with this book is she started off just telling the reader things instead of showing us in dialogue or scenes with the other characters. Who her dad was seemed to me, to be a big deal and the FMC literally just blurts it out in passing like oh yeah my mom told me this and told me that, etc. It’s as if the important things with the storyline are too much to flush out but then she describes all these other scenes that really were, in my opinion, unimportant. Like her becoming “Immortal.” What was that all about? With who her parents are it’s quite obvious she would be immortal already. Also she just tells us shes been intimate with all the guys together. You don’t have to have a ton of sex in a book for it to be good but I don’t see any chemistry between her and her guys. There’s barely any description of their time together to show me, the reader, the chemistry. Then we get a glimpse with who Crispin is and he just acts like a moody teenager. Half way through there’s finally a scene with her and her mother talking. It should have been in the beginning. I just felt like the author was all over the place with her story line without any real direction. Complete disappointment. So I’ll be the odd person out and tell you that if these things I’ve described don’t bother you then have at it. But it wasn’t for me.
