4.0 out of 5 starsClassic Katz

I've been watching Dr. Katz for over 20 years now and have liked to revisit the show every few years. Maybe it's a coping mechanism for me. It's not a show that changes depending on your stange in life, but it does have a soothing effect for me, probably because it brings me back to a simpler time before my life extended beyond a 2 mile radius from my home. A few years ago I was happy when audible released a podcast with short episodes with classic comedians. Then eventually (way too late) I found this book and immediately purchased it. It hasn't disappointed, but it has some weak spots in my opinion. There are some parts that get mildly and superficially political that I would have cut had I been editing this. It's not that they're under the belt or particularly abrasive - they're just easy jokes that have gotten boring over the last 3 years. They don't at all ruin the experience, they just somewhat cheapen the product in my eyes. I still like the audiobook and hope a new one is released again because it's a timeless format.
This audiobook is partially new "episodes" of sessions with great comedians. The latter portion are live sets with even more awesome guests! Jenny Slate and Paul F Tompkins are big highlights in this. If you enjoyed the TV show, this is a great addition. It's considered the "2nd season" of the reboot. Currently the 1st season is no longer available on audible. Those episodes were about 15 minutes long and were individual episodes which were released weekly. This 2nd season is one continuous listen filled with hilarity. Jonathan Katz and H. Jon Benjamin have aged a bit and their quick wit has slowed down a little, but Katz is still charming as ever. I'm thankful for this show, as well as the TV show, which I still pop in my headphones and listen to (because let's face it, the animation wasn't doing much for the show). I'm very much looking forward to a 3rd season. So please give this a listen so Jonathan Katz can continue to portray this character.
4.0 out of 5 starsLack of animation does hurt the dynamicness of what we experienced from the show

Few jokes are repeated from the dr.Katz's show, other than that. To be honest animation was a big part of this show it does feel unfinished without animation. For some reason comedians are less motivated to tell funny stories here than on dr.Katz's animated series. Being a huge dr.katz fan, I couldn't miss out, and glad to purchase it.
