As the first book from a new author and a whole new universe to boot, I'm giving this author some wiggle room to get things moving and to set things up.
The premise behind the series is interesting and different then most scifi type books and because it was so different it took a bit from me to really understand and appreciate what was going on. Once I wrapped my head around the story, things really started to click into place and I could appreciate the author's setup more.
This isn't some brainless romp around the universe, it's very cerebral, and deep and you must engage your brain to really understand what's going on. The author is obviously very clever and there are several onion layers in this story, so just when you think you know what's going on, there's another layer you discover (and probably many more layers beyond that). You might think you know what's going on, but the author herself says just because you THINK you know what's going on, don't assume it's right.
Ms. Adams has setup her universe very well and this book is a good start to what, I feel, will be a good series. I'm looking forward to see her next entry and see what happens to these characters.
