If you've read CHRISTMAS JELLY by Curt Iles and liked it, you're going to fall in love with Sarah Walker Gorrell;s memoir, TALES FROM THE PORCH. When you read Sarah's new book, you're not only going to fall in love with the book. You're going to fall in love with Sarah. She shows her heart and soul here. What a beautiful heart she has!
TALES FROM THE PORCH is open and honest. And it's funny! Some of the memoirs left me splitting my sides from laughing. Some made me cry. All of them told the truth about her life, which is a well-lived one. Sarah and her book are mixtures of down-home Mississippi simple life and the kind of sophistication that comes from traveling all over the continent. She's incredible.
Sarah has a different kind of punctuation that I didn't understand until I listened to TALES. That's right. I LISTENED to it on my Kindle Fire. She places commas and ellipses where they belong if a person is reading it. Even the mechanical voice on my Kindle has to stop and pause where Sarah gives the commands with her commas. This wonderful book needs to be made into a talking book ASAP.
Get a copy anyway you can, any format you can, and enjoy it. Read several of the stories straight through, or if you need something to spend five minutes on when you're going to bed, enjoy one of her stories at a time. There's only one problem though. You can't read just one.
