My 14 year old was very upset by this book. She thoroughly enjoyed the first official Minecraft novel, so we assumed this one would be similarly upbeat. This one most definitely is not upbeat. [Spoiler Alert] The main character is in love with a boy who dies in a car crash due to her distracting him with her phone while driving. This happens at the beginning of the book. All the way through the rest of the story she believes her boyfriend is really still alive and the reader is led to think so too. Exciting and hopeful! But, no. At the end she comes to realise that he is most definitely dead and it is all her fault and she is utterly devastated (of course!). There is no happy ending. No relief or comfort for the main character or for the reader. My daughter actually said, "Why do people write books like that for children!" Horrible.
1.0 out of 5 starsSuitable for teens and up - dark story and bad language.

I bought this for my 8yr old having already received and enjoyed the other official Minecraft novel. Unfortunately, this book is not suitable for this age range, and we had to adapt it as we were reading to avoid unsuitable language. The story itself is also quite dark, with young characters being based in a hospital and suffering from serious conditions such as cancer. The overall feel of the book was quite dark, especially for a sensitive reader. Probably more suitable for a young teenager.

Brilliant story, had my Minecraft mad fan hooked from page 1, doesn't follow on from book one this is a stand alone story so you don't have to read book one first. Looking forward to the third book being released.
