Andi is looking forward to playing with her foal, Taffy, on Saturday, but then her brother, Clay, says he needs her help. Andi is not happy, until she finds out that Clay needs her to babysit Taffy while he begins to wean the foal from her mother. Andi is upset about it, because Taffy is still young, but everyone took her brother's side.
Andi is happy to be babysitting Taffy, but only because it meant her only chore was to play with her horse. But she isn't so sure about keeping Taffy away from her mother. Taffy cried and tried to get to her mother. And that made Andi sad.
But then a bully, Johnny, tells Andi that weaning can kill a horse. Either that or they can get badly hurt. Andi doesn't want that to happen to Taffy! But how can she keep her little horse safe and happy?
ANDI'S LONELY LITTLE FOAL is the fifth book in Ms. Marlow's Circle C Beginnings series, but it easily stands alone. Beginning readers will love Andi and her horse Taffy and learn important lessons about different things as they read.
Written in short easy chapters, these books give beginning readers the encouragement to know that they can read a whole book. A glossary is included to help teach words that might be unfamiliar, as well as a brief history lesson.
I enjoy reading these little chapter books and my girls (ages six and nine) want me to hurry and read them so they can read them. My nine-year-old actually swiped one of the books before I read it, she was in such a hurry. She loves all the Andi books, even the older ones. If you go to the website, you can find coloring pages and more.
My nine-year-old says: These books are funny and adventerous. I absolutely love them. They are fun to read.

In this adventurous chapter book, Andi is introduced to one of the many "tough-to-swallow" life lessons. Her mother has made up her mind that Taffy needs to be weaned from her mother, Snowflake and her brother, Chad needs her help in accomplishing this. Luckily, her friend Riley, is there for support.
Andi perks up when she finds out that she can spend the whole day with Taffy. While Riley and Andi were out riding and Taffy was trotting along with them, Riley decided to rope a calf and in the midst of all the chaos, Taffy trots along and spots her mother, Snowflake. Over the fence she went and started to nuzzle at her mother. Knowing her brother would be very upset, Andi with Riley's help tie up Snowflake and lead her back to her own pasture. Then they led Taffy into the barn. She soon was kicking the stall door and whinnying for her mother. It was getting late and soon Taffy would be all alone. Chad assured Andi that the first night would be the hardest for Taffy and then gradually it would get better.
However, when the bully, Johnny told her that weaning can either make a foal hurt or even kill it, all Andi wanted to do was check on Taffy and make sure she was fine. While in the barn, Andi noticed a large scrape on Taffy's leg. Was it true what Johnny had told her? Should she return Taffy to her mother?
In this, the fifth book of the series, Circle C Beginnings, your child will gently learn that life isn't all peaches and cream but with God's help we can handle all situations. And~ Sometimes, things do work out for the best.

My daughter: I like these three books from Circle C Ranch because of Andi's spunky, fun, tomboyish attitude, and her loving care for Taffy. No matter what happens, if it's mean old aunts, or unfair fairs, Andi's love for her family and God can help her get through anything.
My thoughts: This is a wonderful series for the little girl in your life. The adventures are small but the life lessons being displayed are huge. The illustrations in this book are playful but intricate all at the same time and add a lot of character to these already adorable stories.
There is also a second series of Circle C Adventures books where Andi is older and these would be perfect for your 9-14 year olds.
