Valkyrie Cain has been through a lot since she met Skulduggery Pleasant,
entered the world of magic, saved the world (more than once), and nearly
wrecked it (once, which is all it would take).
Through it all, she has tried to keep her mundane family out of the
way and blissfully ignorant of it all. It hasn't always worked.
Her actions cost one relative her life (two if you count differently,
and add in an even more horrible death, three if you count temporaries),
and the constant lying to her parents has taken its toll on Valkyrie's
soul and the easy rapport they used to have. But, except for the
mass effect the times the whole world was on the line, she has kept

Cadaverous Gant, the old wild magic talent who is invulnerable in his own
pocket universe domain, is looking to punish Valkyrie for killing his
protege in the murder-house dungeon crawl that drove a barely surviving
and severely PTSD Valkyrie back to Ireland from her American exile, and to do
that he has done what nobody else has. He has located Valkyrie's house
and with only the partially-ept Omen Darkly babysitting, has kidnapped
Now Gant has given Valkyrie twelve hours to locate him in his new
domain, and rescue her sister. She will have to do it with her
powers locked away, without talking to Skulduggery Pleasant, and
under a spell that lets Gant see through her eyes as he leads her
on what may be a wild goose chase, and even if it is not, would end
up in the one place Gant can't be harmed.
Of course Skulduggery Pleasant is not idle. The Skeleton Detective
is still on the path of his resurrected, evil, sometime girlfriend
and is suddenly confronted with the unexpected news that he may be
a father. Luckily her gang of malign wild talents seems to be
splintering some. In particular, something has happened to Cadaverous
As always, adventure and moral ambiguity are the orders for the day, and
Landy turns in another top notch Skulduggery Pleasant outing.
