3.0 out of 5 starsInteresting but a bit thin.

I didn't read the first book so it was hard to catch up with the characters and the setting for the story. Some exposition would have been helpful. The story is ok in a manly man sort of way with sanctioned violence against an invading hoard of jihadists. Some of the characters are writ large from the Saturday Evening Post, some seem to be lifted from a Tom Clancy novel. It's pretty good as a fantasy read.

Shawn has developed a good storyline with an end of the world prepper theme. This story would be a good opening for a series if combined with the first book. As a stand alone there isn't enogh character development to satisfy my need to engage the protagonist. I would prefer a strong lead character or more time on the three main characters. Tom, Warner, and in a small way Buck hold more interest for me than the boy, and girl with her mother. Picking out a continuing themed bad guy might help to strengthen the story line. I enjoyed reading the story. More detail in developing the drama would help bring the characters to life. I look foward to more of the story in future books.
4.0 out of 5 starsKeep up the good work, and I'll keep reading.

I stand by my review of the first book in this series. Good stuff, cool plot, not too far fetched. Very few distracting grammatical mistakes. Only a few cringe-worthy dialogue moments. Characters that I want to like. All the pieces are there. Well worth a couple bucks and a couple hours to read. Please keep the story going.
I enjoyed this one, too. The addition of the two Marines was an unexpected pleasant surprise. No room for sympathy for a jihadist. A good mix, especially with Buck included! But I have to be honest - Matt Ryan is my favorite. Look forward to more of him, and pooch! Good job, and thanks.
Wish this book was longer! It ended too fast but I definitely enjoyed it Alot!! And Yes would love to read more of this storyline regarding Tom & Buck And…Werner!! If its available through KINDLE UNLIMITED I wont hesitate to snap it up!
