4.0 out of 5 stars some good writing

Some good writing here. Dialogue is especially well done. Cute story that coulda toned down the family stuff because I just didn't find it that interesting. I would have preferred more work/hospital drama, actually, and less Abuela. 3.5 stars

This was absolutely worth the read. Very funny story, interesting take on the fake dating trope, and enough info about the medical field without bogging it down. I feel like the Doc was not neurotypical, so I actually really liked her character. She was very relatable.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great read

I remember reading a review that said something like, “I don’t know what’s in Australia’s water but they are producing some great authors.” And I can’t help but agree.

This book was beautiful. I loved the slow burn. I thought I knew what slow burn was, but this book was the definition of it.

I love how the secrete were heart felt and not something crazy. I loved both characters families for who they were and what they represented.

The cat…lesbians and cats. The more books I read about lesbians and cats the more I think about getting one(dog person here lol).

This was a good read, with good characters.

Oh, I almost forgot. The second sentence of the book almost made me not read it. I don’t know why it bothered me so much, but I think the grammar just threw me off, and it was the second sentence! Either way, I’m glad I did read it, as I stayed up all night, and could barely put it down.

I definitely would recommend!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazingly Good

When I got KU and into Goodreads this year, I was exposed to a lot of Lesfic books for the first time. Truth be told, I didn’t even know what that meant before this year. I didn’t know what to expect except maybe some f/f sex scenes. Instead, the reality is that I’ve read some amazing writing that just happens to be female driven. I just shake my head because a book like Who’d of Thought is incredible and I wonder why doesn’t everyone know about this book and others like it.

The story centers on a young nurse who answers an ad and agrees to “marry” a wealthy neurosurgeon in her 40’s whose motive is unknown. The mystery unfolds slowly and meanwhile we learn about the two women, Hayden and Samantha, their family and friends. Of course, things heat up between them unexpectedly and it’s perfect. No extra drama, no unnecessary explanations, just story and characters.

I absolutely loved the shaping of the main characters, the flow of language, and the natural humor. The backstories of families dealing with Alzheimer’s and homophobia added a genuine depth that rang true.

It took me a while to finish the book because I kept rereading chapters, just so damn enjoyable to read that I would smile and laugh or nod, then start the chapter again.

Of course,I recommend the book and a big shout out to all third shifters who have worked in a medical center. I did for 22 years and this book was spot on in its description.

1st let me advise that this book has not been improperly edited…the use of pronouns is accurate for this situation as you will understand if you allow yourself to follow along with the authors storyline ..
2nd this story is not only witty, fun but extremely serious, all characters well developed and entertaining as well as informative.
I can not thank this author enough for giving me and all readers the chance to experience her talent.

4.0 out of 5 stars Confused, then sad, then finally happy

Honestly the only things I felt reading this story was confused, then sad. For a lot of the first half I was thinking that maybe Luce was going to be the main love interest with the marriage serving as the catalyst, which I was pretty happy about. When that didn't seem like the case anymore the only thing that kept me riveted was my need to figure out the mystery since nothing I was coming up with in my head really fit. It was like staring at a hole in a puzzle and holding three pieces in your hand, all of them look like they should fit and yet don't until you realize the right piece was under the table.
I felt sad through most of the story. It dealt with a few really heavy topics and they all felt pervasive and clung to even the moments that should have made me laugh. The only time I felt a smile was literally the last few pages.
After the mystery was solved. The next thing that kept me reading was anticipating the huge conflict that would finally force them to evaluate their feelings. It seemed inevitable and necessary. There were a few moments where I sat up and told myself, "Alright, finally." Only to be disappointed. After everything though I was forced to admit that I enjoyed the story for the main. Overall it was a great story told in a surprising way.

4.0 out of 5 stars I really enjoyed the book

Minor reasons why I didn't award this book five stars.. One was because Hayden became repetitive about not wanting to lie about their arrangement and secondly I wanted more of their marriage life after coming to terms with wanting to stay married, thirdly I'd have love to see more banter amongst co workers about them getting married after all it was part faking for reasons and lastly I'd have loved for Sam POV more than anything but despite all of that I enjoyed it greatly

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended

This is not the kind of book that immediately catches my attention. The cover would normally put me off. But it was on special offer at 99p and I could not be bothered to read any of the 200 books I already have waiting to be read.
The things that put me off: the cover. Fake relationships.
And that’s about the only negative thing I have to say. The rest is all good. I loved this book. It is so well written I couldn’t put it down, and now I am paying the price for spending all the time reading. Still, it was worth it. I liked the story unfolding from the perspective of one main character, it means much is hidden, but then the plot would become exposed too soon if told any other way. I liked it.
The fake relationship worked very well, not only the execution but the reasoning. I liked that. The characters were good too. The evolution of the characters, their relationship with each other, and how they grew and changed as individuals, worked well as the story unfolded. I liked them all. There is an age gap, but this to me, was not a large part of the story, it didn’t matter. Secondary characters are also interesting, including Haydn's non-binary friend, and Sam's brother, and the whole book fit together well.
If there was one thing that drew me in it would be the humour. I think this is what drew me in right at the start.

I have a feeling this is one book I shall re-read, and I am sure it will be as good the second time as it was the first.

I highly recommend it.

Im Buch wird im Zusammenhang mit Luce dafür "they" oder "their" verwendet anstatt "she", "he", "her" und "his". Manchmal etwas verwirrend, aber man gewöhnt sich dran. Daher Verwendung "Person" statt Verwendung 'Freund/in'.

5.0 out of 5 stars Who'd have thought...this would be so adorable!

Where to start with this review?!! Firstly, G Benson has to be a 'Jane The Virgin' fan with her references to Hayden's abuela, telenovela's and even a patient whose last name is Villanueva! The premise is not unlike Lyn Gardner's latest, "Born Out of Wedlock", but this had a lightness and sweetness which I found missing in that. You know where this is going but it's all about the 'journey' and boy, does Ms Benson deliver on that! No 'wham, bam thank you man', all over in less than 200 pages, but a beautifully built slow-grow romance. Truths (on both sides) are gradually revealed as you watch and feel 'cute but slightly clueless' Hayden inexorably falling...and falling... And Sam is wonderfully crafted too - all dry wit and damnably attractive arrogance!
My only very minor bugbear (but not enough of one to mark this down) was regarding Hayden's friend Luce. I have no problem with people being non-binary, but the 'they', 'them' and 'their' pronouns seem to me to be pretty inadequate and somewhat confusing when written, being intrinsically linked (in my mind anyway) to plurals e.g. "Luce dropped their arms, and they and Hayden shared a look over the bed. It had been a rough night - patients beyond their help on arrival..." etc. Perhaps it's time to invent some new ones, much like how Hayden and Luce settled on the term 'drama quing'?!!
All in all though, this was delightful - one of those 'feel-good' books that you don't want to end, but leaves you with a warm feeling inside when you do...

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Fabulous!

This was a superb read that kept me turning the pages in to the early hours – 5 Stars

When Dr Samantha Thompson posts an anonymous ad offering ‘substantial compensation’ in exchange for spending a year being married to her, Hayden responds. The only trouble is they both work at the same hospital, and Hayden can’t stand her…still, for $240,000, Hayden’s willing to sign-up to the deal!

This was a great read with just a handful of characters that you really got to know only as the story played-out. Undoubtedly, it’s a slow-burn romance, excruciatingly so in fact, but that’s half the joy in reading this book. As Sam and Hayden tippy-toe around their false relationship, the conundrum of why two intelligent women would put themselves through such a situation becomes addictive.

Although the plot sounds very straight forwarded, there was actually an awful lot going on, and along with many laughs, there are some soul-searching moments too. A big plus factor for me was that, as different as they were, I genuinely liked all the main characters - I even found myself respecting Luce’s pronouns!

An exceptionally good read... I’ve added it to my list of all-time Lesfic favourites.

This is the 2nd book I've read by G Benson and I must admit, this has been my favourite out of the two of them. I had bypassed purchasing this a few times as I had read a couple of similar books based on girl marries for the sake of money etc etc but gave in and added it to my kindle. I must admit, I felt the two characters were written so well and being so opposite really kept my attention to them throughout. It was a detailed novel and I particularly liked the insight given to both Hayden and Sams families and the fall out from that on both sides. I didn't want this book to end to be honest - perfect one to curl up with a cold winters night !
