I started reading this book 5 days ago, and it immediately began having a profound effect on my days. The first time I did one of the yoga nidra meditations recommended by the book, I felt a shift inside. I now do the meditations twice a day— once before bed and once when I wake up. I find my body waking spontaneously a half hour before I normally do looking forward to doing the meditations. This book is shifting the way I see my life and the deep ease and relaxation that are available to me. I am so grateful for this book!

Last year I discovered Yoga Nidra with Karen in an online group she led for helping us tap into our creativity through writing. I was profoundly impacted by the beautiful and simple way that Karen gently shared a regular yoga nidra practice with us as a tool to honor ourselves and our bodies in a way that is totally contrary to the popular view of more is better. Yoga Nidra is introduced in this book as a way to begin a simple practice with guided meditations to focus on our intentions, go into a restful state, and tap into what whispers from our soul and inner wisdom. Karen Brody shares a beautiful way to slow down, restore ourselves and honor the rhythms of living that we often see in nature, but all too often do not take time for ourselves in modern day living. This book frames out in a very simple way a 40 day program of yoga nidra through a framework of resting, releasing and rising. There is a link to downloads for each of these three meditations in the book and there are also scripts so that you can read and record them yourself exactly as you like them. I can't think of a better way to nurture myself so I approach life in a new way - rested, tapped into my inner wisdom, and ready to move with greater energy and creativity into each and every day.

This is the first review of a book that I have written as this is one book I feel compelled to do so. As a longtime practitioner and proponent of Yoga Nidra I became aware of Karen Brody's work a year ago and I have not turned back. Hands down she is one of the best Yoga Nidra teachers I have yet to encounter. Her passion, dedication, support and encouragement to help us become aware of how vitally important it is to STOP, REST and simply BE, instead of" do do and do more," is boundless. I was eager for this book to be published as I knew it would not disappoint. It is truly spiritual medicine for the soul. She offers accompanying guided meditations - to aid in deepening your Yoga Nidra practice- the meditations are wonderful and will help pave the road for you to discover your true Self. Enjoy the journey with Karen and please Dare to Rest!

This is a great book for yoga teachers and students but also a great read for the novice yogini!! Whether you want to delve deeper in your ability to fully engage in a yoga practice or want to deepen your meditation practice, or if you know nothing about yoga and meditation, this is a great book!!!
I loved this book. It's organized so well, with each chapter including chants, breathing exercises, and essential oils. I really liked the meditations too. It really changed my perspective and left a deep impact - I'm now incorporating self-care more into my life! My only issue is that she should have included a version of the meditation that doesn't add all of the instructions to it...it gets annoying, and she doesn't leave enough time. Recording the meditations yourself is a pain, and not everyone likes to hear their voice talking back at them. I hope she will consider adding alternate meditations on her website!

This book is wonderful. I have long been a practitioner of Zen meditation, and find that this Daring to Rest style of yoga nidra works and heals the system on levels just as deep. You can almost feel the realignment happening on cellular and energy levels as you practice! I really connect with Karen Brody's voice, both her written voice (which cuts through exhaustion with humor and strength) and also her spoken voice on the guided tracks. The teaching about holding opposites in your mind/body at the same time is one I am finding especially transformational. Highly recommend.

The core of this book is the meditations, which after numerous tries cannot be downloaded and saved on the iPhone. Who wants to fiddle with the phone every single time before practicing yoga nidra--which sounds like a nap to me.
What a transforming book! I went through the entire 40-day program several months ago and incorporated yoga nidra into my routine ever since. It's an incredible tool to support your mind and body, and I can't imagine life without it now. Karen's program is easy to follow and encourages lots of introspection along the way.

This is truly an amazing practice that Karen has made accessible to all women who are overworked, over stressed and NEED to rest. Whether you are aware that you are overworking or your body has said enough is enough, then this is for you. Meditations unlike others that take you into deep restorative rest. 40 days that can transform the way you think about REST. 5*
I tried this program. Unfortunately it reawakened and revived previous trauma in my life, possibly due to the emphasis on female reproductive organs during the visualisations. No help or support was provided for anyone in this situation and there seems to be no awareness that this may happen.
