There are some spoilers in this review.
Book has graphic, violent sex and language.
This book bothers me but I also like the story.
Smoke, an assassin for hire is after the man he thinks killed the woman who was carrying his baby-Frank Hepburn. And he kidnaps Frankie Hepburn, the daughter, to force her dad to come forward to save her life.
Problem: Smoke brutalizes Frankie over and over, both physically and mentally. But, guess what? She’s attracted to him, of course! And on top of that, when Frankie gives in to having sex with Smoke, she’a virgin, he’s hugely endowed and, wait for it, “he ignores her cries of pain until she doesn’t.” How is this romantic? Just bothers me.
What I like: There is a real twist in the story and how Smoke and Frankie solve the mystery of who killed his pregnant friend and, also, how to save Frankie’s life. And once the “romance” part of the story kicks in, it’s really a interesting story.
The books in the KIng Series are brutal and MC stories and often have twists and turns, but brutal sex, in any form, just isn’t romance to me. Just be aware.
