Nicole Leiren hit it out of the park! I knew she was a good author but she was edging into a series I already loved so I was a bit anxious for another author to enter territory I had claimed, even one I knew was a good. Not only does this book have its own characters that I love, Ms. Leiren does an excellent job of bringing in characters from the earlier books in this subseries and others from the rest of the Danger Cove Mysteries. Seeing old friends mix with new is one of the fun things about the Danger Cove books.
Great characters, lots of fun, a little murder, some truly awww moments, a bit of romance, and some twists I sure didn't see coming tie up this plot beautifully.
Lilly Waters has returned to the town her grandparents loved but she doesn't really remember in hopes of keeping a connection with the grandmother who raised her but who has recently passed on. On her first day at work tending bar at Smuggler's Tavern, a man recognizes her bracelet and says the man who owned the match saved him and a group of men escaping capture during the Vietnam War. That man was her grandfather who was still listed as MIA. There is no explanation for why the man didn't let the authorities know of his friends demise but he had tried to find the grandmother/wife to return the matching charm. Desperate to know about the man her grandmother loved so much, Lilly agrees to meet him after work. She it too smart to go alone but that doesn't keep things going the way she would have chosen.
Watching her growing friendship with Mandi, Boss Lady, Ruby and a very special young man keep the story positive in spite of the frustrations they face in figuring what is going on around them.
