Love. Betrayal. Sacrifice.
Honestly, when I started reading this novel, I was not immediately drawn into the plot. I felt that the first few chapters went on in monotone blur. We are introduced to Lou Mills, a young 20 something, who works to save up for a gap year in Greece before she starts University. Overnight, Lou learns that she actually isn’t human. She’s a part of an ancient group of people called enchanters and she’s a rare Moonchild to boot. As a Moonchild, she is burdened with the mission of locating the all-powerful Emerald Tablet.
It wasn’t until she got to the Academy (where enchanters train to become a warriors) that she meets the evil and manipulative Lord Black, who also has devilishly good looks and charm. She is warned by all to stay away, but he ignites a passion in her that she has never felt for anyone else.
At this point for me, the novel was an absolute page turner, and I binged it in one night. I loved the character depth of both Lou and Lord Black and how their complicated relationship evolves. So many plot twists. I cannot wait for book two to be released!
