2.0 out of 5 starsNothing Special
Reviewed in the United States on January 6, 2021
I decided to read this as it was the last in a series of pleasant, predictable books. I HATED HATED the stupid fact that "Poor Boy" was NEVER given a NAME but called by this stupid moniker into adulthood. Even his wife at the end only calls him "Mr. Hastings." The author was ridiculous is not giving this character an actual name. Very ridiculous and stupid tactic in my opinion. I'm sorry I wasted my time. The book was cheap, that's its only saving grace.
Author Kathleen Ball is a very prolific author who can sweep you into romance, some pain, mystery, and always heart warming emotions. Poor Boy Hastings arrives home to Asherville, Texas, after spending his school years in New York City. He is now a deputy for Sheriff Shane O'Conner. He joins Shane in a horse chase after two bank robbers. One of the robbers is a beautiful woman, Molly McDonagh, and the other her father who is killed in the chase. Molly is in jail, waiting to be hanged. But Poor Boy is told by Shane to take her to a ranch and they can hide out as brother and sister until the judge returns to town. This is an intriguing story of another Christmas miracle. A real heart warmer. Highly recommend.
5.0 out of 5 starsPoor Boy's Christmas and The Greatest Gift 2-in-1

In Poor Boy's Christmas, Deputy Poor Boy is assigned to guard/protect prisoner Molly. While in hiding, they fall in love. No spoiler there; it's a romance after all. Recurring characters Judge Gleason and Edith Mathers have a lot to say to, and about the couple. I was smiling all the way through this book, except for one obvious instance. The Greatest Gift- a man finds a woman about to give birth in his barn at Christmas. Stories about love at Christmas... they always get to me.
5.0 out of 5 starsNever could understand why he didn't use his real name

He's a grown man now and can't wait to get home. Once he's home he trying to get settled as the the deputy; he ends up with a woman as a prisoner and is to be hanged. Things get complicated and Poor Boy wants to help her out. They end at his ranch. It starts getting interesting. I really liked the book and the characters.
Well I just finished the series. What a great one. I could relax and enjoy my time with the characters without a lot of angst. There's so much of that in the world and when I read I want to relax and enjoy my time with the people I'm living with for a couple of hours. Thank you Ms. Ball for a pleasant time with this series.

I enjoyed reading Poor Boy's book and him finally finding a HEA. Love his character and our heroine, Molly. I enjoyed reuniting again with the characters, from the previous books, always fun to catch up. When the story ended, I was pleasantly surprised to see there was an additional book to read, The Greatest Gift. This was a lovely little story and enjoyed it very much. JudyE
5.0 out of 5 starsWonderful story of tragity, forgiveness and love

Stories of the frontier are always interesting in their twists and turns. All the characters have secrets in their pasts, that enable them to see the real person and forgive them. This couple overcame such hardships to find each other and love. Very good book.
I read all the books in this series Poor boy was just as exaggerating as the other books. Poor boy was just as hard too put down, always something new the Characters were mostly the same as in the last book with a few new added characters. Another awesome read..
