So, I just got this book, and was only interested because there was a series. So, I figured, there had to be a good chance this book would be good. That was an understatement. It was good from beginning to end. Halleigh, was headed down the right track until her fiend mom Sharina, sells her soul, and does the absolute unthinkable. Its amazing how many young females go through this with drug addict parents. To make matters worse, after it happens she's only looking for her daughter to satisfy her addiction. Malek, has a promising future, and that all went down the drain, not because of Halleigh, but in my opinion his mom. No matter, how much you hate your sons girlfriend, how can you just turn your back on something like that. I didn't feel bad for what happened to his mom at the end, not saying she actually deserved it, but she definitely did some un-godly things. Both Malek and Halleigh are both swept into the fast life, in separate worlds. It will be very interesting to see how the rest of the series pans out. Definitely a good read.
High school sweethearts Halleigh and Malek are dreaming of their future together and hoping that Malek will get drafted by the NBA...but in the blink of an eye, their dreams are shattered.
Malek's hoop skills are being compared to those of Lebron James, and he's even hired an agent. For the last game of his high school basketball career, Malek seals the deal and leads his team to an overwhelming victory. Malek and Halleigh had planned for this evening to be the most unforgettable time of their young lives, but things don't turn out that way.
Despite her undesirable home situation, Halleigh tries desperately to hide her unhappiness and function as a normal teenager. When Halleigh arrives home, an unimaginable tragedy occurs. Halleigh is defenseless, and her mother offers no help. With noplace else to go, Halleigh turns to Malek for help. Malek tries his best to come to Halleigh's aid, but his mother intervenes, and Malek makes a split second decision that alters both of their lives forever.
In the first of the Flint series, CHOOSING SIDES tells a heart-breaking story of how one's life can change in the blink of an eye. Malek and Halleigh's domino effect of tragedies keep the reader glued to every word. Urban Books has introduced us to another winning author in Treasure Hernandez, so keep your eyes open for the next book in this series.
Flint Book One was a great read. I wish it was longer but the story was heartbreaking and real. It surely leaves the reader ready for the sequel!
Halleigh and Malek are high school sweetheartsfinishing up their senior year. Malek is the #1 high school prospect to be drafted into the NBA. Halleigh is from a broken home and has a drug addicted mother.
One fateful night will change these 2 young lovers lives forever. On the night of the championship game something happens that sets off a wild chain of events. Halleigh and Malek's lives will never be the same.

I ENJOYED THIS BOOK A LOT, IT'S SAD BUT TRUE IN THE INNER CITY,HOW ALL YOUR HOPES AND DREAMS COULD BE SHOT DOWN IN ONE WRONG DECISION!!!!! THIS BOOK WAS SO DEEP THAT EVEN THE PARENTAL ROLES IN THE STORY WERE DESTROYED,HOW MANY PARENTS MET THEIR DEMISE BECAUSE OF THEIR CHILD'S BAD CHOICE(S) (DRUGS). IT WAS DEPRESSING BUT WELL WORTH MY TIME AND $$$$$$!!!!!
