1.0 out of 5 stars Just..... nope

If I could choose 0 star I would.
I skipped just to get it over with since I paid for it, I have never read a book where a scene, an event and information change from one paragraph to the next, I mean the book is so inconsistent it gave me a whiplash.
SPOILERS ALERT
Was the h with her ex for 2 years, 4 years or 7 years? Did she actually have a miscarriage or was she just late, because each page said something different, and that's just a small example, the book is filled with them. Let's not mention how immature both the H and the h were, they barely communicated with each other and he's in love with her.... as I said just NOPE.

Title: Single Dad's Waitress
Series: Main Street Single Dads
Author: Amelia Wilde
Designation: Book 1 of Series, Full-Length Standalone Single Dad Romantic Comedy, NO CLiffhanger
My Rating: Five Hilariously Sexy Stars*****
I have no idea why Amazon had this book originally categorized as Fantasy/Action Adventure/Sports Romance, because Single Dad's Waitress is none of those things. However, It is a sexy, fun, flirty, fast-paced, well-crafted, easy to follow, full-length standalone romantic comedy filled to the brim with outrageous humor, instant attraction, steamy passion, dreamy romance, an all too real small town full of quirky residents with a charming little diner named Short Stack boasting the best pancakes around, a wonderful cast of relatable and very engaging characters including a beautiful, brokenhearted, down on her luck heroine in need of a fresh start, a single dad hero with an adorable two-year-old named Minnie, and, of course, a healthy measure of agonizing angst. What's life without a little heartbreaking drama, right? The narrative is beautifully written in the first person with clearly defined his and her perspectives. The dialogue is smart, snappy, well-executed, at times hilarious, and flows effortlessly. But the crowning achievement of this sexy romp and my favorite component is the delightful cast of characters. I was immediately smitten with the two protagonists, Ryder Harrison and Valentine Carr. The lovely Valentine has come home to Lakewood to lick her wounds and mend her broken heart. She lost her home, job, and boyfriend in one fell swoop. So now, she's back at the same job she had during high school, a waitress at the Short Stack Diner, but's it's only until she gets on her feet and saves enough money to get out of town for good. Unfortunately, she had no idea her plans would be derailed by an adorable, precocious two-year-old named Minnie and a cocky, panty-melting-hot single dad named Ryder Harrison. Ryder is a handsome bad boy former soldier who has suddenly become the sole provider and caregiver for his cuter-than-cute two-year-old daughter Minnie. Ryder has moved to Lakewood to accept a job working with his brother for the summer. He has no intention of sticking around the small community of Lakewood and plans to beat feet out of town with his daughter as soon as possible. He had no interest in making friends or putting down roots, no interest in romance, and especially not a relationship. Nope, not him! However, a scorching-hot but very temporary summer fling with the beautiful, blushing red-haired waitress from the Short Stack Diner just might fit nicely into his schedule. What could go wrong? A lot actually, especially since their hearts didn't get the memo! Yup, you guessed it; they fooled around and fell in love - just like the song! But will love be enough? We'll see!

Did I like this book? Yes, I loved it! Was it perfect? No. There were a few boo-boos but nothing that truly distracted me from the story. Would I recommend it? You bet and I am but only for adult readers since it does contain explicit language and some steamy dreamy love scenes. There's no danger, violence, suspense or mayhem, but there is a boatload of laughter, adorable cuteness, heartwarming sweetness, and a whole lot of smexy fun! Will I read this author again? Absolutely! I've been following Amelia Wilde's writing career for the past year and have read several of her books but I must admit, Single Dad's Waitress is, hands down, my favorite. And finally, was I entertained? Completely! Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read!

The whole stopping mid-sentence, so one can stare stupidly at the most hottest piece of manhood one has ever seen, while dropping a few sentences in ones thoughts, is completely unbelievable and turned me off this novel immediately. Insta-love/lust is so expired. Give me a confident, ugly duckling who unexpectedly wins over a hot guy through her amazing personality, over this drivel anyday.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome read

I just love books on single dads. This was truly an amazing read. Though this book had it steamy parts it had its funny parts as well, I mean it kept me laughing so hard. The characters in this story are truly amazing. I also done whispersync with this book and the narrators were awesome.

I can not imagine what it was like for Valentine. She had made it to her dream job and now here she was back in her hometown being a waitress. Her dreams had shattered. Her self-esteem had took a beat down. Her Ex had made her feel like crap. Her one goal was to save money and get back out of this small town.

Ryder was this sexy single dad. When Valentine first met him he had this hardness to him. The only softness to him was when he interacted with his 2 year old daughter.

You will just fall in love with Minnie which is Ryder’s 2 year old daughter. She had this bubbling personality and brings sun shine to ever room. I so love when the authors brings kids into the story and gives their personality life and that is what this author has done.

I loved the incident that happen that broke the walls that Ryder had up. Valentine was nothing like he had expected and having a summer fling with her seemed like the perfect solution to scratch his itch and get her out of his system.

Of course there are things that happen that cause stress, distrust, and turmoil. There are misunderstandings and it looks like things will not work out between these two but don’t worry it has its happy ending.

This was a great story and glad I got a chance to read the book. To name one favorite part would be hard because there was so many but I think I will got with when they got busted by their neighbor or the sausage man..LOL

5.0 out of 5 stars Not the average single dad romance

I loved this book's unique take on the single dad trope. Both main characters had issues with their exes that they needed to work through, and though Valentine was young, she was no blushing, naive virgin. Ryder is a fully involved dad who has his daughter's interests at heart - all the way.

Most of their interactions were awkward and made me laugh at times, reminding us that love and sexy times are hardly ever perfect and they hardly go as planned, but with enough effort, things work out the way they should.

The ending & epilogue were heartwarming. I definitely recommend this book.

I voluntarily read & reviewed an ARC of this book.

2.0 out of 5 stars What happened towards the end?

Getting towards the end of the story, chapter 48 the POV was by 2 totally different people nothing to do with this book. Chapter 49 went back to POV of Ryder. Epilogue was about the people in chapter 48 – totally not what an epilogue should be, an epilogue should be a summary/conclusion to what has been read. The Valentine-Ryder story was totally ruined for me. Such a shame, perhaps this only happened with my copy as I cannot see mentioned in other reviews.

4.0 out of 5 stars A really funny, steamy, summery read
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on August 19, 2017

This is a funny, sugary-sweet, steamy romp of a rom-com. Ryder and Valentine are both determined they only want a summer fling but are also wildly attracted to each other. The course of hot lust struggles to run smoothly and Ryder doesn't help, in his confused state, by sometimes being a bit of an ass to Valentine. And she is so ditsy that she doesn't help the matter either.

Valentine was funny, sassy and a bit of a klutz. I didn't like how she had allowed herself to be treated in the past but hey, she's only young so I'll let that pass (and she did stand her ground at the end). Ryder has such a big chip on his shoulder it's amazing he can stand up straight and he struggles with what he truly wants out of life. There attempts at having a torrid and wild fling were both amusing and also steaming hot.

There was a lot of humour through out the story and it was nicely done, not too over the top and not too much of it. There were also some very serious parts and some extremely well written angst. I really enjoyed reading this book, it is well written, has a good plot with some nice twists and a steady pace that kept me engaged. It's quite different to the 'Kiss' series of books and I definitely loved this different style by the author.
