5.0 out of 5 starsI felt like I was living through the trials and tribulations myself
Reviewed in the United States on October 2, 2017
For the past 10 years, I've been starting/growing businesses... and, this book spoke to me. I felt like I was living through the trials and tribulations myself. The simplistic way Jon wrote about very complicated issues broke down the process of struggling into achievable sections. A lot of what was written gave me the confidence of understanding that the adversities I face are normal, and if you build the right team... no goal is impossible. I've already re-read my notes and highlights twice. It's one of those books that you can continue to learn from throughout your time in business because our perspective on growth is constantly changing. - Jay Mentzel

Jon Dwoskin gives a great road map from stuck to success in this amazing book with a unique twist.
Experiencing the growth of a business and businessman as a fable is a great way to make the lesson stick.
The lessons laid out here take you from stuck to successful without talking down to you or resorting to insider lingo. You can tell Dwoskin walks the walk. This is obviously not a "Those who can't do, teach" kind of book. He's been there before and shows the reader how to find success as well.
5.0 out of 5 starsThis book's like a 26 Chapter MBA for today's business world

There isn't a leader out there that can't benefit from Dwoskin's fantastic "key lessons within a fable" approach. The book is distinct in several ways: 1) It's an enjoyable read. The lessons within are brought to life in a relatable way through relatable characters - I know at least 5 "Jacob's" and 5 super-mentors like "Marc". It's written so well it keeps you involved wanting to see what lesson happens next. Therein lies some of its beauty, the lessons unfold naturally, like you would learn in a real-world similar situation, not in an over-bullet-pointed dry-as-toast fashion. 2) It's a complete framework for growing your business much bigger, and doing so in a way that lets you lift while you climb. No more burning people, or bridges. So many books I read leave key parts of the puzzle out. Dwoskin covers it all - culture, having a business plan and a clear roadmap, the "talk you need to walk", and perhaps most importantly, being self-reflective and self-aware every step of the way. 3) The author knows what he's talking about. He's walked more than a mile in the shoes of what so many leaders have faced in trying to get their business to the next level of growth. And I don't just say that because of his credentials (which are impressive) - I say that because I've led the charge in trying to grow massive businesses and trying to grow businesses massively, and what he says is plain and simple....true...and insightful. An easy and enjoyable read that will resonate with anyone trying to crack the code for thinking big, and delivering bigger.
Not sure why anyone would give this less than all 5 stars. While the book teaches great lessons and provides insight on how to grow and foster your business, there is a definite emotional and spiritual connection that I was able to pick up on while reading it. Very unique from many other business books I've come across. As a business owner that is constantly trying to learn different techniques to grow and stay cutting edge against the competition, I would highly recommend this book as it has provided me with many vital life-long tools that I will utilize throughout my career. Overall, this is hands down an excellent, must read. I really enjoyed the story as well.

What a great concept, a business book written as a fable. A perfect break from the usual books I read about business and entrepreneurship , not only do you have a great story, but you also learn some great business lessons. I found myself highlighting many sections of the book that I plan to put to use immediately. How often do you a read business book that also focuses on work-life balance?

I was engaged and inspired by this book right from the start. It provides great insight into how to move forward and excel in business with purpose and passion. It breathes life into that desire many of us have in our businesses but don’t know the right steps to take.
Anyone who has felt stuck and longed for more in business can genuinely identify with the characters in this book. Their paths toward success provide the life- and business-altering inspiration and perspective necessary to break through the barriers to achieve great success and fulfillment.

Loved this book. Leadership and management and vision are hard to actually talk about. This book leads one step by step thru the details of opening up to what is really true for us and the hard but satisfying work of going for it. Easy to read but lots to think about and put to work. Not easy answers. Good, solid guidelines and steps to moving forward. Don't miss this if you have a vision or feel like you have lost your vision. It is about what it takes for long term success.

Personal energy, effort, and charisma from a founding owner is often all that's needed to get a company off the ground and reach initial profitability. Unfortunately, companies created using this formula often plateau, and begin to regress, because energy, effort, and charisma are not the only traits needed to grow a business very big. I found this book to be an exceptional fable of how to make the transition from a small start-up to a larger, more established company. It's a quick read, and quite impactful.
