This series is a spin-off from the Angie Amalfi books. It explores the feeling of two completely different individuals who are attracted to each other. They do not want a connection with each other but they can't keep away.
Homicide Inspector Rebecca Mayfield is a go by the book persons, there are no shades of gray. She is a workaholic. She has limited outside interest. Rebecca has a very strong moral attitude. She grew up on a farm in Idaho.
Richie Amalfi is entirely different. His source of wealth is a mystery, he is often in the view of law enforcement because of his actions. He has a couple of questionable friends. He has a large extended family and his Mother wants a grandchild. He runs an high-end nightclub. He goes out with fun loving girls.I
In this book, a friend of Rebecca is found murder in a nearby town. Her husband is the main suspect and her daughter is missing. She feels the investigation into her murder is lacking. She begins to look at the husband and attracts the Russian mob and the FBI. Richie comes to her aid. The twist and turns will maintain you interested. I highly recommend this series.

I thoroughly enjoyed the second installment of Joanne Pence’s Rebecca Mayfield mystery series. This adventure starts perfectly, as we see immediately the kind of person Richie Amalfi is, how he feels about Inspector Rebecca Mayfield, and the uncertain nature of their relationship. This time around Rebecca is looking into the murder of a longtime friend, and of course Richie can’t help but help her out. Stolen jewels, ruthless Russian mobsters, odd gypsy fortune tellers and a runaway Spike (a dog only a mother could love) all add to the crisply written detective drama. We learn more about how adept Richie is at bending the rules without breaking them, and while some of his tactics seem heavy-handed to Rebecca, she (and we) can’t help but appreciate why he does what he does. In fact, one of the best parts about Two O’clock Heist is watching Rebecca finally begin to thaw, just a little, toward the man everyone says she should stay away from. I’m looking forward to seeing how Rebecca and Richie’s “friendship” evolves, and what crimes they get caught up in next.

You'll be up till two o' clock reading. I love this series and the book does not disappoint. We have the usual group fun, romantic and friendship. This story had so many moments to which you are on the edge of your seats you can't put it down. I'm looking forward to book three. It's going to be hard to top this one. I just hope Ms. Pence keeps writing this series.

In this Inspector Mayfield mystery, Rebecca comes up against the Russian mob in San Francisco while working out of her jurisdiction (and out of her depth!) to find the killer of an old friend. Have no fear, Richie and his cohorts, Shay and Vito are nearby and covering her six. I'm so enjoying this series! Will Rebecca and Richie get together or will they not? They're questioning their attraction and keeping us guessing.

As a retired police officer the plot has enough twists and turns to keep me entertained. I laughed and I cried. Was hard to put the book down when I had other things to do. I'm glad Laurel's children, friends, family and especially her on again - off again stuff muffin boyfriend Detective Tom Hunter are resilient and can handle life's up and downs.

Another superb book from this author. She knows how to mix lots of action in with the crazy tale of Rebecca and Richie to make a great story.

I love this series. Rebecca is a homicide inspector (detective) who teams up with Richie who owns a nightclub to solve murders. Some of the scenes are hilarious and a lot of them are really scary. Richie gets shot in this one. If you like a story that falls in between a cozy mystery and a hardcore police procedural this series is for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Second book good as well.

Loved this one but not sure how long Rebecca can keep her relationship with Ritchie holding our interest. Does it go that one step farther, but just blowing hot and cold? We shall see. Mysteries are interesting however. Will pick up the next installment and see where it goes. I think, as a reader, I am looking at where things go, and if they stay the same, probably will end it with three.

Enjoyed this second book in the series. Just hooked really as I'm into murders and mysteries mostly with a little bit of peripheral romance/sexual attraction. I'm not really a book critic as I tend to "read" the story not analyse the writing or characters, as most do. I just enjoy reading for relaxation. I have a feeling though I will follow this series though (as I have done with the Dana Stabenow series).

I like Joanne's books very much. They are lively and interesting and well written. So far I have only read a couple of her "Heist" books but I shall read more.
