4.0 out of 5 starsEditing problems for a well composed story!

I loved reading this mystery taking place in an area with which I am familiar AND being able to read one which is well written...not well edited, but I feel fairly well written. These three books are easy reading. The dialogue is handled well and is not stilted. There are transition problems,,,which I again credit to editing problems. I feel that there is room to grow both for Donovan's writing and for the series should the author choose to continue with more Haunting of Rachel.
4.0 out of 5 starsMurder in the Appalachian Mountains

Highland, North Carolina. Detective Rachel Harroway lives in a 1892 Queen Anne "manse". Rachel sees dead people! Her partner, Jenson Peak, knows this, but has a hard time accepting her visions. The Gift 🎁, as Rachel calls it, "has three tiers: The Sense, The Sight, and The Reality".
When Rachel and Peak are led to a scene of a serial killer's burial ground, they are staggered by the horror. Rachel is determined to find the killer so the victims can finally rest in peace.
More editing is needed, but this is a spooky, engrossing, and engaging read! Rachel is a fascinating character! 3.5 stars.
I chose this book mainly because of the paranormal aspects of the story.. I am a huge fan of author Kay Hooper's The Bishop/Special Crimes Unit series ( An FBI special unit made up of agents with various psychic abilities) so I was pleasantly surprised after reading this book..I really liked the characters and the storyline..I didn't want to put the book down once I started reading!! I am so ready for another Rachel Harroway book to read.. I hope there will be many more cases for Rachel and Jenson to solve! If you are a fan of murder mysteries/serial killer cases with some paranormal activity mixed in, you'll definitely like this book..
This book series is in desperate need of a proofreader. So many errors and the story just isn't believable. It could be a good story if it had more flow, believability and no errors. Grammatical and more.
I read the first book and had to read this one because it was so good. This one didn't disappoint. My only complaint was a few spelling/word placement errors that a bit of editing should take care of. It wasn't so bad it distracted from the story though. I definitely recommend this book and I look forward to reading the next one.

As I said in my previous review of the first book, This author, J.S. Donovan is going to keep getting better and better. This continues with Rachel's life having some major changes from who she was in the first book. But I love her character and can't wait to see what else is going to happen to her and the Orphans!
