Stunning! A riveting tale, richly imagined, stirring and at time quite thought-provoking, this is a true page-turner with a uniqueness that sets it apart from many paranormal romances. Noah, with his human emotions battling his non-human instincts, is a compelling main character, who is at times not sympathetic, yet always fascinating. Once strong and attractive, he is being punished in the most brutal of ways by his leader, Amon, a creature of remarkable evil, yet who is also quite intriguing. Enter Caroline, the nurse who stirs something primal and strong and even beautiful in the beaten, nasty Noah after his fall. Caroline is more than just a romantic foil in the story, as she comes into her own and develops into an equally complex match for Noah.
Odessa Black, the author, has a startling way of stirring beauty and violence, love and hate, dark and light into the plot, and the contrasting elements all mix together to create an engrossing, well-written, complexly plotted and imminently readable story. Her ability to juxtapose the beauty with the ugly creates a tension in the story that makes it a great read, startling at times but in a good way. Her writing throughout is also so well done that the novel moves quickly and smoothly through its many twists and turns. I’ll definitely read more in this series. Thank you, Odessa Black, for a fine book.
