This story is about an American doctor operating a clinic in Belize. She has had to fight for every tongue depressor to x-ray machine that she has. she has a ragtag crew of nurses and helpers. She is trying to bring modern medicine to the jungle. Her big problem starts when a replacement doctor shows up on a delivery flight. He is drunk, no clothes and a freaking plastic surgeon.. She is not happy. Life in the jungle is not easy and add to it the fights they have and the anger she has toward him, it makes for a very volatile story.
SPOILER - Just a personal observation, but I could not stand this heroine. This was the angriest woman I have ever read as a heroine. She was injured and I'm sure that added to the personality but good grief, she slaps him every time he turns around. She just got on my last nerve. She was hateful, rude, violent (a doctor violent? OH NO.). I thought she was going to eventually calm down and try to be a little bit pleasant but no, she just couldn't seem to control herself. At 50% I had had enough. She didn't seem to have a reasonable bone in her body. No matter what happens, she jumps to the conclusion that she knows what is going on and it is always negative. Boy, she never got the ..do no harm.. message. I gave up. I certainly don't want to discourage anyone from reading the story. The things that bothered me may not even bother you, it may be that you like her "fire". So, you may want to read and decide for yourself. Maybe she should have taken a clue from Maria.
The story itself is not a bad one, it is just that I didn't like the heroine and really couldn't understand why this doctor would fall in love with such an angry woman. Especially one who seems to think the answer to everything is a hard slap across his face. Really, I'm rethinking my policy on men not hitting women for any reason!! But again, maybe you will like it, so give it a try.
I was not paid for this review. I am not an author nor do I know one. I am not kin to this writer. I am a reader and this is my opinion, nothing more, nothing less. 10/17/17
