A stand alone read with a HEA. I always love reading other reviews to see what others think. Sometimes I agree and sometimes I wonder if we read the same book. I am not a writer, have never taken a writing course, I just know what I enjoy so I go from there. I have certain things I like in a book and if they aren't there I usually don't care for the story. A friend that is a very successful writer once told me to review THE BOOK, not a character or event that I may not like. Look at the story and see if the author did a good job.
Now, f-bombs do not bother me. Crude talking for the sake of crude talking is a turn off for me. when I am reading a book like this one, it is basically a man's world. If one thinks they sit around and say "oh pooh", they are living on another planet. Men talk tough, it is just the way they are. Like it or not, it is the way it is. So, it doesn't bother me in a story to have men talking tough. This story is basically about a ski racer. They go down the mountain at speeds up to 90 MPH. They are not a bunch of light weights. They are a bit crazy to my way of thinking but they are daredevils that take their lives in their own hands every time they leave the top of the mountain.
Our hero is 31, he is the hardest of the skiers. he doesn't make friends, he just does one-night stands with women and he races like he has nothing to lose - not even his own life. He is carrying a big secret. You find out early on, so I'm not spoiling anything here. His mother and his brother have both died young of a disease where his mother was the carrier and it is passed down to the children. He is facing losing everything starting in his 30's and expects to die a horrible death by the time he is 40. He is angry, he takes chances, and he is lonely beyond reason.
The heroine happens to be in his path because she made some bad decisions and wound up in debt and a chicken farmer. They meet during a blizzard and things start to change for both of them. It is a good romance, secrets, heartache, sad, happy, lessons learned on how the mind works. I thought it was a very good story and I enjoyed reading it. I think it deserves a 5 star rating because of those reasons as well as the characters developing, the story moves along at a good pace. It does have hot sex, so if that is a problem for you, be aware!! However, with this guy hot sex was a part of who he was. She was one lucky girl when all was said and done. I would definitely recommend the story.
I was not paid for this review. I am not an author nor am I kin to this one. I am a reader and this is my opinion, nothing more, nothing less.
