I LOVED this book. When a new series enters the Kutherian Gambit universe, I'm always a bit on edge. I'm a bit territorial of the books that I love and have a passion for and I was skeptical about how I'd react to the Age of Magic books but they have grabbed my passions and made me fall in love with the characters as much as the flagship series they hail from. So while I was greatly anticipating the arrival of this book I was doing so with trepidation. It was an author I didn't know... Would I hate the writing? Would I hate the characters, storyline, world building, etc? Fortunately the answer to all of those questions is a resounding, No! I absolutely loved this book and immersed myself into it, staying up through the night to finish it because I couldn't put it down. The Age of Magic has another winner on its hands and I'm already desperate to read book 2 (get cracking ;). I love the heroine and am excited to see what is to come for her. I love to hate the evil female dog of a storm caller villian. I can't wait to see what's in store for Syd (will she be the next captain of Thunderclap?) and find out what happened to her brother. All in all an amazing read and an amazing ride and very few books get five stars from me. My only request is you move fast to get book two into my hands as quickly as possible.
OUTSTANDING!!! PT Hylton is the latest talent in The Kurtherian Gambit Universe! Wow! What a debut! Magic, as in the ultimate extension of Arthur C. Clarke's observation, "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic" is most apropos... Adventure, given the joy of life in believable characters, plausible plots and dialog, with enough humanity, to suspend attention in the "real world of here and now," is not only plentiful, but totally addictive. Hylton carries on the excellence of the TKG Universe and its magnificent crew, assembled by Michael T. "Yoda" Anderle... Never before has a body of literature been so exciting, rich, and fulfilling. The heroines, heroes, "ordinary people," and villains are a living tapestry in story telling- one that everyone should take the time to immerse themselves. With books like these, sleep is overrated. As in the military, when sleep was mentioned, you'd often hear, "I'll sleep when I'm dead." No need, here. Enjoy, and be refreshed in an adventure vacation, courtesy of The Kurtherian Gambit Universe, and it's wonderful writers and magnificent support personnel..
Five Stars, only because Amazon won't let me use Six, or More!
Storm Raiders rule the sea. The protectors. They are thought of as heroes. Storm callers protect the raiders with their learned abilities and staff. They can control all elements while connected to the sea. Wind, water, lightening. They protect the storm raiders. The most worshiped storm Captain For and his Storm caller Dahlia are actually frauds. They are aligned with the enemy. Profit, power are their motivation. A young blacksmiths daughter and a new storm caller stand in their way. Non stop action. A truly amazing read!
Audiobook review: Wow! From beginning to end of this story, the listener is taken on an action packed journey of wit, danger, treachery, sword fighting, sea faring, treason, mystery, and acceptance. Storm Raiders is a really entertaining story! I would have preferred to have listened to the entire story in one setting instead of over several one hour increments. Gabra Zackman did a great job as well! Her voices for each character and inflections were spot on. I will definitely be buying additional audiobooks in this series by Michael Anderle & P.T. Hylton. Only one warning! If you're listening to this book while driving, it is very easy to become distracted by this story. Please be careful!
Now that was FUN! I rarely give 5 stars but this first volume of a new Kurtherian Series is worthy. Unlike the other books in the other series, where it's almost a necessity to have read ALL of the KGU novels prior to this series to have a clue about what's going on, this one stands on its own.
Even though Storm Raiders: Age of Magic, is the title of this phenomenal book, PT Hylton created magic throughout the pages of this book. There is danger, intrigue, suspense and excitement that just about describes Abbey alone. Throw in Dustin and Benjamin and a host of other creative characters, makes this series worth reading.
This is a great read. Couldn't put it down until I finished it. Abbey and Dustin are going to be a real force to be reckoned with. The writing keeps the emphasis on the people in the story, the settings and backgrounds are very well done. I can't wait for the next one and see what happens to this group of characters. Great job!
Another interesting facet of the Kurtherian Gambit universe. Well written with good characters and a fair bit of action. If you haven't read a TKG book before, beware - with all the different times and places currently being explored, you could easily hurt your book buying budget :-)
