The writing is a good first person account of one Union officer in the War Between the States. He wrote it several decades after the war, as did most men, but he did research official records of both north and south to supplement his memory which worked well. It is very readable today and seems to be historically accurate. I would recommend it.
The only downside to the book is somewhat poor print quality. I realize that it is a scan and print of an old book, but the quality seems worse than it should be.
In any case, for the price, it was well worth it.
