5.0 out of 5 starsGreat romance read!!!!

Loved getting to know the characters and really getting a feel of what Olivia is going through. When her husband Alan has to relocate them for his work she does not know what to do but its her husband she goes.. Until they can get their own place they will be staying with one of Alan's friends, Ash. After a brief reuniting of husband and wife Alan is whisked away to London for another work venture. Unbeknownst to Olivia this is where stuff starts to go awry. I was given plenty of twists and turns with some LOL as well as teary eyed moments. This book is one of self discovery and finding yourself again and I think Jennifer did a wonderful job of bringing us a great story, i found it well written and moved at a great pace. Some of the characters definitely took on a life of their own and one of my favorite characters was Bert/Todd he shows us to look deeper into a person because the outside doesn't always give you the real picture of what is on the inside. I would recommended this to anyone who likes a great romance.
Out of The Box Awakening by Jennifer Theriot is a Great Romance Read!
Out of the Box Awakening is a refreshingly different take on your run of the mill romance read. I love how the main characters are older, yet still very young at heart – still enjoying a good romp in the hay.
Ash Harper is quite the catch! The author has done a fine job with multiple characters and I could identify with each one of them. I became emotionally attached and found myself left wanting more. I also love the importance of family and friends the author stresses in the book.
I’m now onto the second book, Out of the Box Regifted to see what’s in store for Ash & Olivia and the rest of this interesting bunch!
5 stars for this wonderful book and highly recommended!
Olivia Petersen is a woman who has always put her own needs second to her husband's and children's. Her dreams have fallen by the wayside in the face of her husband, Alan's demands and the demands of her family. The kids are grown and her husband accepts a transfer from their Texas home to Chicago. Following her husband, puts Olivia out of her comfort zone and isolates her from her children which becomes even worse when Alan, rarely warm and attentive throughout their marriage becomes even more distant. And in the end finally calls during a business trip to tell her he's not coming back and he wants a divorce. As big a part as Ash Harper, Alan's friend, and Olivia's eventual lover, plays in this story, Olivia's blossoming from being a repressed, dominated wife to a independent, confident woman is the important part of this story. Olivia's strength is her ability to give love and nurture others. Her children, Ash's and their friends all fall under her spell and now that she's from escaped her husband's repressive negativity she begins to explore and discover that the relationship she and her husband shared was sorely lacking in affection, intimacy, and caring compared to the one she can have with a Ash. She struggles but overcomes hurdles, starts to stretch her independence and starts to dream again. I really enjoyed the book. Teresa J. Reasor
As modern technology and advances are increasing the average human life span, so to does the vigor of youth extend. While once forty was considered to be mid-life, these days 60 is the new 40. It is about time someone wrote romance for this generation that is romantic and sexy. What is the point of being a grown up with all the experience of having dealt with the obstacles life has thrown at you if you don’t get to enjoy life just a little bit?
Out of the Box Awakening is the story of Olivia. A 50-something empty-nester who is beginning to find her self again after thirty years of being just “Mom” or “Mrs.”. Her husband has been transferred to Chicago from Houston, requiring her to pack up her home and contemplate starting a new life in a new place. While she is apprehensive, she approaches the new adventure as catalyst to find herself and breathe fresh life into her increasingly stale marriage. However, before the movers have even delivered her things to the new city, she is faced with fact that her marriage is over and she is on her own. Luckily she has Ash, the man her husband had arranged for them to stay with while they looked for a new home and who now offers Olivia a safe haven while she moves forward to this new chapter in her life.
It is always fun to catch a glimpse of oneself in a book. Reading about places I know, movies I have seen or music I listen to is a little thrill making the characters more real and approachable. Like Olivia, I too have a music play list that is all over the place from classical to country to rap and something from everything in between. Most people I know think that is nuts, but that is how I listen to music and I immediately connected with Olivia and her play list. I am also blessed to be married to a musician and have a son who is following in his footsteps. It didn’t take me long to take to Ash and Tommy as well. Ms. Theriot has done a terrific job of capturing the voice and characterization of this whole extended family. Each person adds something distinct to the whole, making the fabric of the story a little more vibrant. Family, those you are born to and those you find along the way, is the foundation of this story and though the romance is deliciously steamy and sweet, that is what I take from this book.
I am not certain how Olivia ever managed to have a life with her cardboard cutout drip of an ex- husband, or managed to raise such fantastic kids, a common theme for many women her age, I am sure. I am also certain the best thing he ever did for them was to move aside and let them look for happiness in another place. It was a pleasure to be a part of Olivia’s journey to find herself. It is great to believe that love can be found at any age.
Olivia Petersen, aged 57, is moving from Houston to Chicago because of her husband's job. She is facing something of a crisis of identity and purpose, having submerged and even suppressed her own vitality and personality within the at times stifling duties and routines of marriage. She starts to rediscover her identity and self-awareness, whether through wearing sexy underwear, or having a new hair-do and a clothes re-fit. Then she gets to know a widower, Ash Harper, at whose house she and her husband are staying. With her seemingly work-obsessed husband, and her sense of personal crisis, what's going to happen? And why is her husband acting so strangely? Then she learns the truth. A book full of tension, drama, and sexual passion, as Olivia 'awakens' in every sense of the word, this is a brilliant description of a woman at a cross-roads in life who sets out on a journey of self-discovery, revitalization and rebirth. Check it out.

I love reading about hot romances between older characters - I have a major girl crush on Julianne Moore who is around this age! I did find the endlessly list of secondary characters a bit overwhelming but the romance was lovely, some of it was a bit unrealistic - Ash was a bit too perfect but still well worth a read - fans of Donna McDonald will enjoy
