1.0 out of 5 starsI would not recommend this book. Very different from other books the author has written.

I have to say, even though Jennifer Ryan is one of my favorite authors, this book did not do it for me and I stopped reading it half way through. For many reasons it did not hold my interest. First, I did not realize the book is basically about Caden's involvement with taking down a drug ring. He meets Mia, who he has already stood up twice, and at the end of their date they are kidnapped by the drug guy, taken to a warehouse, beat up somewhat and on and on. I guess I though, from what I read the book was about, that there is romance and instant chemistry not realizing it happened while trying to escape the drug guy. Seriously.....it was so far fetched and boring, in my opinion, I just could not read another page. This book is nothing like her other books in plot or character likeability. Please Jennifer Ryan go back to the other types of book you write. I had pre-ordered this book and the next one in the series. I just canceled the preorder for the 2nd book coming out in August. Would not recommend this book.
A great intro into a other suspense filled, action packed romantic adventure from Jennifer Ryan. I adore her books of rugged men in Montana who all have the hero gene. I equally enjoy how each of these men tend to fall for strong women with minds of their own. In this gem we meet two brothers who work for the DEA. After an undercover op goes bad, one brother misses a blind date for the second time and the other brother spirals into guilt and pain from how the operation ended. Cade hopes that Mia will give him another shot at a date. Fingers crossed, he truly hopes to make it up to her. Little did either party know this date would become the most memorable in history....and not for reasons they may think. This book has tons of suspense, good guys vs bad guys, and romance....it's a great starting point for her new MONTANA HEAT series...I for one look forward to reading more books in this exciting series. Just to warn you though...this book is a novella and as such is far shorter than the author's usual books.
5.0 out of 5 starsDevelopment of additional characters.

Wow! What a lot of action for a novella. If you've read "Stone Cold Cowboy" A Mountana Men Novel, you will enjoy the continuation of the story in this prequel to "Escape to You" coming out in August. This novella is a continuation of the development of characters. Caden Cooke is not a particular likeable character, but his development comes through clearly in this novella and sets the scene for Trigger's story. The action is non-stop and again, Mia comes through as a strong independent woman with many talents. Enjoy all of Jennifer Ryan's books and reread them. Always looking forward to the next one!
5.0 out of 5 starsThe great beginning for a new series

DEA agent Caden Cooke has stood up his blind date twice because of his job. Chef Mia Martin is not happy with this blind date that her aunt has been trying to set her up with after being stood up twice. Her aunt and Caden's aunt convince her to give him one more chance.
Once Caden and Mia meet it becomes obvious that it's much more than a blind date. But because of Caden's job the date doesn't end well when their lives are put in jeopardy.
During their ordeal Caden will learn that Mia is a very resourceful, strong woman. You can always count on Jennifer Ryan to give her female characters strong, admirable traits.
2.0 out of 5 starsdisappointed by a Favorite author

Nothing is worse than a bad story by a favorite author. I have read everything by Jennifer Ryan and couldn't wait for this to come out, boy was I disappointed with the story. It's set over only 2 days, I'm not sure what happened with this one but im glad it was only a 1 day read everything else by her is 5 stars, 2 stars is way generous for this. My advice just skip this one, I wish I had.
First time I've ever given a Jennifer Ryan book anything but 5 stars and I have read everything she has written. I have read this same premise in a hundred plus books. Nothing different nor outstanding which I've come to expect in her books. The next one sounds better and I can't to read it. Despite this let down I will definitely continue to read all her future books. Jennifer Ryan's the hunted series and the McBride series will probably always be my favorites.
My favorite books involve strong characters, believable situations, fun loving secondary characters and villains who pose real threats but aren't so exaggerated that I want to scream in frustration.
This book has all that and more. Do I believe in love at first sight? Probably not. I do believe in finding enjoyment, laughter and common interests on a first date. That gets described so well in this book. So does a woman who learned to protect herself and protect those who have tried to help and protect others. That, too, is a basic part of this story.
Caden is a DEA agent who is going after a drug cartel. His brother iBeck aka Trigger is undercover on the same case. The night they were to take down a method lab, Camden was missing the second date his aunt had set for him with a friend's daughter. When he finally met Mia they both felt a connection. When they were both kidnapped leaving the restaurant everything breaks wide open. A thrilling story ensues that will keeping turning pages until the end. Now I will be reading the first book in this new series by one of my favorite authors. A must read.
