Truly one of the most enjoyable books I've ever read. An absolute joy! I laughed out loud as well as wiped a tear. Really. I'm by no stretch of the imagination anything close to a 'regular' at the bar, but at the same time, unless you've been lucky enough to have spent time at McSorley's over several decades as I have, you might not really understand.... However, if you have been so lucky to have spent a quiet, winter afternoon next to the stove while the low sun streams through the windows and light living history, Rafe's book will entertain, enlighten, educate and many times land a visceral punch to the gut.
A word of advice: if you have not already done so, make sure to read Joseph Mitchell's short story about McSorley's written in 1940 before reading Two and Two.
