4.0 out of 5 stars I love Morgan's developing character

Another great ARKANE book, End of Days by J. F. Penn features agent Morgan Sierra. This fast-paced thriller is about finding seven seals that will open the sarcophagus of a banished serpent whose resurrection would bring on the end of days. Racing against time, a special lunar eclipse, Morgan and Jake Timber must out-maneuver the Brotherhood of the Serpent in order to save the world from an apocalypse.

What I especially liked about the book was that Morgan showed depth, susceptibility, and conflict. Questioning whether to continue working for ARKANE or to “settle down,” Morgan become multidimensional and more plausible as a character.

If you have enjoyed the ARKANE series to date, you will love this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Evocative and thrilling! JF Penn strikes again (pun intended)

I, too, received a preview copy and was entranced from the start. Not only do I learn new words from Ms. Penn, I thoroughly enjoy all her works. The ARKANE series brings to life olden times and the stories surrounding the findings by the group are at times eerie and at other times outright scary.
In End of Days we are immediately faced with snake worshipers practicing their religion. From there we are made aware of mithradatism and meet some of its practitioners. Jake and Sierra have to find out what their plan is and to discover a way to stop them.
Along the way, we lose some one dear to Sierra, but she is left a strange potion, which may help her stop the terror at hand but she doesn't know for sure or how to use it if it does.
You will meet him early in the book: Krait. Look the word up and you will find something interesting. I recognized the word, but looked it up to be sure. His personality absolutely matches! Ms. Penn is very capable at evoking the reader's interest and the supernatural.

2.0 out of 5 stars For the first time while reading this series I came away dissatisfied.

While the reading of the book was enjoyable because of the places and the characters involved, the theology that went into this book was very dodgy, the conflict with the main antagonist seemed somehow unconvincing and half-hearted, and the solution to the final problem was a bit like a magic bullet that came out of nowhere and was never sufficiently explained to any degree of satisfaction.

5.0 out of 5 stars The ARKANE Series is the best!

Great adventure, history lessons included! Morgan and Jake head out for another mission but this one involves a great serpent! A lot of fact based, great imagery and a bit of biblical and occult inner twined.
Some long standing relationships end, soul searching by Morgan and maybe an end to the European ARKANE tales. I have D loved each and every one of these books. Fascinating, intricate, fast paced and I've read them all as well as the London crime set! I look forward to more.

4.0 out of 5 stars Biblical revelation and Ms Penn's version are vastly different but a great work of fiction.

And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison, Rev 20: 7 - but this is at the end of the Millennium and is not done by any man. The seven seals are on a scroll being opened by the risen Christ, in heaven.
Having said that, Ms Penn has written an enthralling book. I have not read any other of this series, but the author writes in such a way that the book is easily standalone.
I enjoyed the book, and with the 'rider' that the biblical stuff is fiction as well as the story, I would recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A book you do not want to miss! Fantastic!

I received a free copy from J. F. Penn, and this is my honest opinion of this book. I also bought a copy of the book to support this great author. This book is fast-paced, action-packed suspense thriller. J. F. Penn's extensive research is reflected in her books with the historic sites, events, and snake worshipers. The development of her scenes and characters keep you wanting for more. It is very difficult to put this book down. I look forward to more of Morgan, Jake, and Martin. Please these books coming! I think you will enjoy it as much as I did!

5.0 out of 5 stars I never thought I would like a book about snakes

I never thought I would like a book about snakes. But Joanna has proved me wrong. End of Days just grabs you and pulls you in right to the very end!

The characters are very real; Morgan, Jake and the others seem just like you and me. I am astounded at all of the research that had to be done for this book; in every way the author is bringing you new insight into history and current times, which just helps to move the story along nicely. I would recommend all of Joanna's books for some entertaining reading! Nicely done!

5.0 out of 5 stars Exciting, suspense-filled adventure from J.F. Penn

I received a free advance copy of this book and also purchased it. Once again J.F. Penn has written an exciting and suspense-filled adventure that takes the reader around the world. My favorite aspect of her writing is how she blends true historic facts with religious beliefs/themes and supernatural adventure. In Book 9 of her Arkane series, Penn has Morgan and Jake on the search for seven seals that, in the wrong hands, will usher in the "End of Days". They must retrieve these seals before the Brotherhood of the Serpent finds them and all hell breaks loose. I loved it and read it in one day. You won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Race Against the Resurgence of Ancient Serpent Evil
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 22, 2018

This is book 9 in the ARKANE series. This one involves ARKANE agents Jake and Morgan having to head straight back out on a mission to find clues to the End of Days and the rising of an ancient serpent that heralds this event. It will be triggered on a night where the planets align, for the first times in a thousand years, with a series of Blood Moons. They have to race against the Brotherhood of the Serpent to find seven seals for an ancient sarcophagus hidden in the deepest section of the Mariana Trench all those years ago.

The chase takes them all over the ancient world, from Iraq, Israel, Egypt and the snake handling churches deep in the Appalachian Mountains. The Brotherhood has a large following, with some of their leaders in each faith, Jewish, Muslim and Catholic, working together to hasten the End of Days coming. Morgan and Jake find themselves ahead at some locations, but also in danger at others. It seems someone is helping the other teams and trying to harm other members of the ARKANE team to stop them.

A great thriller, with a good bit of a history lesson and amazing locations to be discovered. You get to follow the main characters from one historical site to another, whilst evading their rivals or trying to survive an attack. There is lots going on all the time and the pace is great. You can never tell what will happen from one moment to the other and which team will win in the end!

Both Jake and Morgan have to look deep into their beliefs, having seen many paranormal and religious artifacts and what power they can produce, and fighting for good against the power of those with evil as their aim. It can take a toll on anyone and sometimes family must come first. This book reminded me a lot of the TV series – Warehouse 13 – which was a secret warehouse that housed ancient and powerful artifacts and had a team of agents that would go out and rescue artifacts that are disrupting normal life.

I really enjoyed this book and even bought it, while it is reduced, and already have one of the other books in the series and will now have to start back at the beginning to see what else has gone on with the ARKANE team. I thoroughly enjoyed this one and it is just the sort of book I like to read. I was lucky to receive an ARC copy of this book from Hidden Gems and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

5.0 out of 5 stars The serpent that could lead to the end of the World
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on January 27, 2017

JF Penn has produced another great supernatural thriller featuring the 'Arkane' team of Morgan Sierra and Jake Timber, starting with the discovery of an artefact warning of that Satan will be released when the thousand years are ended, which leads to the discovery of a sarcophagus deep in the ocean, and the search for 7 seals which are needed to unlock it and release a great serpent.
The search for the seals leads both Morgan & Jake and a mysterious brotherhood around the world and culminates in a battle between the 2 sides in Jerusalem.
As always the author keeps the breathless pace and excitement at fever pitch but still manages to very skillfully weave in evocative descriptions of the locations. The characters are all satisfyingly complex, and in particular the internal conflict that Morgan experiences is depicted superbly
This is the 9th book in the 'Arkane' series, and maintains and even improves the quality of the series as a whole, I hope that there are lots more!
I did receive a free copy of this book but have no other affiliation with the author, and I have voluntarily reviewed it.

Another fascinating and well researched story in the series. Arkane agents Jake and Morgan set off to archaeological sites around the world in order to thwart the mysterious Brotherhood of the Serpent. Will they succeed? Probably, but at what cost? Another one of JF Penn's 'I've just got to read one more chapter' roller-coasters and not to be missed.

I have to say Joanna really does do her research when writing a new ARKANE novel and this one is no exception. Having just returned from India the team are sent on a quest to stop the End Of Days. Lots of action and travelling involved and some shocks. Already looking forward to the next which sounds like it should be very interesting!
