3.0 out of 5 stars Not for me

I will readily admit to having started this one several times since downloading it in 2016. While it has an important message, it was simply put, too dark for me. The characters didn’t grab my interest from the get go and it’s a relatively short read. That was the death knell for it for me.

I really enjoyed this book and the storyline was written well along with good characters, however, it was a very short book. I think this book and characters could have been extended greatly. There were also some left behind details to me that left the storyline somewhat untold. Ma, the ex and her callousness, his issues, especially when brought up by the ex girlfriend....what exactly happened prior and even before that ... his family situation. Again I liked but felt a bit shortchanged. Will still grab another book from this author. 3.5 stars

5.0 out of 5 stars Heart of Darkness is deep and worth the read.

Heart of Darkness is an amazing description for the subject of this book. The author Gabi Moore dug deep and did some great research on the subject of PTSD because she hit it right on the nail. PTSD is dark and ugly and it can ravish a persons life and turn it upside down and make it seem like there is no hope. It is the destroyer of lives and sadly many families. There is no easy fix and it something that a person will have to manage throughout the remainder of their lives, but with a support it is manageable and healing is possible. As the wife of a soldier with PTSD (ironically named Zack), I have seen what it can do first hand and how dark it can get. I liked that there wasn't a clear-cut hero or damsel, both characters where broken and help to heal and rebuild themselves. Not your typical romance. I love that about it though I wish it was longer.
Heart of Darkness made me cry because it was so right. It was beautifully written and while the subject matter will not be for everyone I would definitely recommend everyone read it. The realness of the dark subject matter is worth it.

Zack is a broken man just trying to make it with the hand he has been dealt. He is ex-military and is trying to outrun his demons, not an easy feat. He has made some bad choices which has found him doing time in Blantyre Correctional Facility.

Maddy is a sweet veterinarian with a not-so-pretty past of her ow, including a psycho ex. She has a herd of rescue animals that she has saved and keeps because I think they provide her with unconditional love and don't ask anything from her except love back. She tries her hand on a prison dating site, because again it is safe, there is not physical interaction and she can just stop whenever she wants, but she almost instantly connects with Zack. After Zack is released from prison they meet up. They both have their own demons to overcome... it may be impossible even. Will they be able to accept the others imperfections and raise each other up to heal? Must read.

I voluntarily read and reviewed and ARC of this book. I liked it so much that I purchased it to have in my Kindle library. I definitely recommend this for others to read. It is raw and dark and honestly brutal about a subject that not everyone talks about. it is not the perfect fairy tale of most romance novels an that is one of the things that make it so great.

I was utterly amazed by this book. Heart of Darkness is not your run of the mill romance. Gabi Moore's handling of the subjects of domestic violence and PTSD is thought provoking and so well done. Hope there is more to come from this couple. Highly recommend this book

I totally liked this book. Both Maddy and Zack came with issues to the relationship. But you learn that there is a difference between a good woman and a bad one :) there are also some bonus stories in here, who doesn't love that!

This is my second book by Gabbi Moore and although she is an amazing author, I am sometimes a little afraid. This book is deliciously Dark and full of heartbreak and angst and I find I have to be in a good frame of mind. I hurt when they hurt, I rejoiced when they found happiness and I was puzzled by so many twists and turns that were driving Zack and Maddy. I have to admit that sometimes I was just banging my head with frustration but Gabbi does let us know in the title this is no filly romance.

This book is one of those emotional rollercoasters that you come across on occasion. Expect to be caught up in the sentiment and the raw gritty emotions of love gone awry. It is a mature story that has some heat in the telling of story.

First story OK and then I really don't know what a teenage romance fantasy drama set in a mystical mall... What a load of well I didn't like it, not my thing at all, it went on and on.
First story was why I purchased the book.
Depends on your taste in escape if you want to buy.
Very disappointed.
