I rate this book 4.5 stars. I knew very little about Versailles before I read this book, now I want to go to Versailles France and visit the museum. The book told the story about the evolution of a hunting lodge to the palace at Versailles. The book describes how Louis XIV became infatuated with that particular area and how Versailles was completed over four different periods of his life. The book includes all of the builders and architects that were involved in the creation of Versailles. The book covers over for 400 years of history to the present day.
This book was not what I was expecting. All the pictures are in black and white (other than the cover) and is poorly put together. It looks like something that was made on someone’s home printer. The wording in the book is also not what I would expect from a published author. Again seems like a book that was made at home.
Bought this to refresh my historical knowledge and quickly prepare for upcoming visit. Was able to read it all in about an hour and a half. And now, I don't have to stick the volume on my bookshelf like those of the others places I have visited over time. My only complaint is that pictures on a Kindle just aren't the same.
