I have now made it to book 3, almost done. There is entertainment in reading this account of Alex, but for me it gets tiring. Being involved in law enforcement for many years I do have some issues. The author seems to have a problem with odors mainly human odors and crime scenes. And how he depicts the actions of individuals to those odors is weird. Everyone responds differently but the manner in which professionals in this book react would not make them non-professionals. Another issue I have is when there is a situation that is stressful and needs a lot of attention we get into this weird thought process of thinking about everything except what is suppose to be at issue at hand. Getting confessions is a breeze for our main character. Winning fights is more by luck than skill and boy does she have luck. I guess I do not understand why the main investigator of these books have to be mouthy. In the real world you get fired. Then again my world would not make good reading, kinda boring having respect for your fellow workers.
Another hit for John Mefford and Alex Troutt. Alex is a complicated character, with a challenging job and a sometimes equally challenging personal life. Mefford expands our view of Alex as a hard working, loyal agent who wants to do the right thing - even if it's not going to be easy. She knows what she stands for. The Boston bombings in the book are terrifying to the citizens of Boston and the push to solve the cases is tremendous. Then Alex is asked to do something more difficult - spy on someone she trusts. The story unfolds rapidly, with details that keep the reader on the edge of their seat.
I love that Alex allows herself to take time to be a mom, even in the crush of the case. And she didn't even feel all that guilty about it! Her memory loss still haunts her, but as she builds new memories, the loss she feels for those missing memories lessens - she even begins to consider men as something other than work colleagues. I can't wait for the next book to see where things go for Alex and how she handles it all.
AT Once is the best of the series so far!! While Mefford's other books were good, everything about this one was just better! The characters seemed more developed, relationships were much deeper & the stakes were higher than ever. Also, there are two plots instead of just one! This book will get your attention from page one & keep it until the end!! When Alex is on the case, she WILL solve the crime!!
I received an advanced copy for a fair & impartial review. I think it speaks for itself that I bought the book.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Kudos to John Mefford for another great book in the Alex Troutt series. In this book, there have been a series of bombings that seemingly have no rhyme or reason. In addition, her boss, Jerry, is thought to have ties with some terrorists and the powers that be have asked her to investigate. And, to top it all off, her son is being bullied at school and she can't do anything about it. The action is relentless and the conclusion is explosive. Sit back and enjoy this electrifying tome.
Really enjoyed the first two but this one was just not very good, in fact it was silly. Lines like, “thinking of his junk ...”, I just want to believe that adults in high stress situations do think about someone’s ‘junk’. No more than one star and that’s being generous.
I am new to this author but i have enjoyed all that I have read. I am not one to write long drawn out reviews soooo. I will just say "keep'em coming" as I like a good read that keeps my interest and keeps me guessing. I especially love books like his that make me stay up until I have finished them. LOL I can sleep when the book is finished...LOL Just wish there was more money in the coffers to keep buying...
I was given a copy of this book for an honest review. I liked it so much I bought it for the collection. Alex does get into some fixes but comes out on top eventually. There is lots of action and things happen that you just don't see coming. I have read the others in the series and they are all a good read. If you are looking for something that you will not want to put down till the end, this is the one for you.
