This is a bdsm novel with a consensual D/s relationship. It involves spankings, whippings, piercings, etc. If you're not into reading kink, stay away. If you're like me and enjoy reading a little kink when it's done right then I would definitely recommend this book.
What do I mean by being done right? Well, let me tell you what I don't like first. I DON'T like Doms who are bullies, who inflict pain solely to hurt because they enjoy it (Sadist) I don't like when the whole story of the D/s relationship is non-consensual; or when their's really no story at all, only a bunch of "scening" that is really no more than torture, with no rhyme or reason, thrown together to make a book. Fortunately this isn't one of those stories. This D/s relationship is one of love and caring. It's completely consensual and it's not all "scening", there actually is a story and development of a relationship. And when they are "scening," it's always with the subs consent and pleasure in mind. The only thing I found a little off-putting was that when they were in the playroom she was called "Slave M", as if there were so many he had to go through the alphabet, which wasn't the case. (She was his only sub.) Just "slave" alone in the playroom would have been okay, but for some reason adding the M seemed cold and impersonal to me which really wasn't the case between these two.
While i'll never understand it, I realize that there are people who get off on the pleasure/pain combo. This sub/heroine is one of those, always excited by the idea, but had never actually participated. When she is finally introduced to the scene and has a chance to dabble, she is brought along beautifully with love, passion and care by her Dom. The relationship develops perfectly in a reasonable and believable manner as our heroine lets her inner "sub" free.
One word of warning ... There is a protagonist in this story who is introduced early on and is mentioned or makes an appearance infrequently. He ultimate forces his way into her apartment, attacks and abuses the sub/heroine of the story. He does get his comeuppence. But if physical and sexual abuse is a trigger for you then definitely stay away. If not, get your kink on and enjoy!
