I met the author, Lorna Makinen, in her very eclectic repair shop. It's a very interesting place, with every type of small appliance, lamps of every shape and size, furniture needing upholstery, antiques, gadg
ets, odds and ends, someone's broken treasures, lined up against walls, on tables, on shelves, essentially covering every square foot of the shop. We struck up a conversation that covered multiple topics, including both being former teachers and having a shared love of reading. Eventually, Ms. Makinen, casually mentioned that she recently wrote a novel. I was both surprised and intrigued. I downloaded her book that evening.
The K Code was a surprisingly good debut novel from a surprising author. Like her shop, it's filled with interesting characters and unique gadgets! It's a high-tech mystery with a long cast of characters and unexpected plot twists. It was fast paced and engaging. I looked forward to reading everyday to see what was going to happen next! I'd recommend it!
