Emma longs to finally have a home of her own, but fears it will never happen. Patrick has made a new life in Christ, but his wicked past seems to follow him and he fears if anyone finds out about it, he will be shunned. Patrick and Emma marry for convenience. He will be able to keep his son if he marries her, and she will finally have a home. Unfortunately, his secrets and a town gossip work to keep Emma from fully trusting him, but not from falling in love with him. Patrick's kindness and care keeps drawing Emma's heart. However, when all the evidence points against Patrick, will she be able to look past what seems to be true and trust his heart instead?
This story is captivating. Both Emma and Patrick are truly caring and loving people wanting to believe for the best. They are drawn to each other and long for each other, but doubts and fears hinder them from fully trusting. I've never read a book by Jody Hedlund before, but I plan to check out her other books after reading this one. She is truly a gifted writer and I enjoyed her style of writing.
