5.0 out of 5 stars Great series from start to finish

I loved this series from the first chapter of the first book. I'm an action fan and love when authors are able to write a lot of action scenes that make you feel the intensity and the chaos without getting confused by it and Tarah Benner did that very well. I tend to skip a lot of lines when reading fight scenes in books but not here. She does so good painting the picture for what's going on and it's obvious she spent a lot of time studying and researching even the smallest details to write this.
Okay so enough on that part...Harper and Eli once again had me glued to my kindle hours into the night feeling like I just couldn't get enough. The only series besides the Legend series that I've read and felt like it finished just as strong as it began. The main characters were separated for a time which I loved and hated (because let's face it, Harper and Eli together are magic) but I loved seeing them on their own because we had not seen them fighting independently of each other before or working with different partners. Harper has been a strong person since the beginning with her own convictions, her own attitude and way of doing things so it wasn't that she had been in his shadow or anything, but it was just intriguing seeing that they were so completely for each other yet they each had different passions and convictions and each understood the importance of not holding the other back yet still fulfilling their own purpose. It was very real-life in that particular aspect of their relationship so I love that the author went that direction and was able to maintain the characters strengths while doing so. (Another frustration with other books is that in disagreements, one character usually comes out weaker or more wrong than the other when in real life, sometimes everyone is equally weak or equally right. Everyone just has their own purpose and Ms Benner did that very well) There were many other things I loved about this final book but I don't like spoilers and not sure I can go on without slipping up so I will leave it at that but I definitely recommend this book series!

»oh but heads up! LOTS of bad language...like a whole lot! Wasn't a fan of that aspect but for me personally, the story was good enough to overlook it but it may be hard to handle for some people. Also book 3 had a love scene that was a bit heavier than I care to read- seriously, felt like I was violating their privacy. But again, not nearly enough to make me give this anything than 5 stars. I'd give it twice as many if I could :)

5.0 out of 5 stars An Explosive Ending to the Fringe Series!

Tarah Benner does not disappoint with Annihilation, the final book of The Fringe series! I have loved this series from the beginning, and the finale is amazing! We see Eli and Harper continue to grow in their dedication to doing what is right and to each other. The additional characters are also developed so much more and we really understand what motivates them. I am very impressed with how this book ties up so many different storylines and characters, although many of those are heartbreaking. We finally see the dirty politics of the compound completely exposed and new leadership steps in to try to repair the past but also are left with the knowledge that all may not be as rosy as it seems. In the end, Eli and Harper ride off into the sunset together. While we know that their journey is going to be far from easy, we do get a promise of happily ever after, as much as is possible in a world that has changed forever! I urge you to read this series and all of Tarah's other books!

4.0 out of 5 stars Finale left me a bit unsatisfied

So first let me say that I have read and enjoyed all of the prior Fringe books, and was eagerly awaiting the finale. The good points are that Benner does a good job bringing all of the plot points together and tying up all the loose ends that have been developing throughout. That being said, I was a little unsatisfied with a couple of things. Some items resolved in ways that made me wonder why were were brought down a different road for so long. It felt as though either the plot wasn't all thought out and changed as it was going, or that it ended up easier to do it one way rather than following through on the original idea. That feeling happened in a couple of places, and left me scratching my head a bit. I am also a reader who does not appreciate violence purely for violence's sake. Through the series I've enjoyed the way that the tension forwarded both the plot and the character development. In book five, I felt as though it did neither. Without dropping spoilers, I felt that some of the things that happened were more to ensure no one could say the author didn't include them than for good plot or character development reasons. In spite of all that, I still found the story well written and the pace kept me moving along. Unlike previous books, the plot itself did not pull me along. There were too many things that left me scratching my head for me to call this a page-turner.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing

I know I am in the minority here judging from the other reviews raving about this book. I even feel sad about giving this rating, as I really liked the others so much. I was really looking forward to this book and hoping it lived up to the previous four. Unfortunately, this one just didn't do it for me. I found it so repetitive and slow-moving, it felt like it took me forever to finish. I liked the characters but I was hoping for some real development in this last book that never came. They just felt a bit one dimensional for me in this one. The ending? Well, okay. This one was just too easy for me to put down and I found myself forcing the read to finish. Oh well, the first four were fun....

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific ending to an amazing series!

This is a terrific ending to an amazing series! Readers who have been with the Fringe series since the beginning will be rewarded. Just me talkin' here, but there are two things that make a great author: they have to be willing to take risks with their characters and risks with the plot instead of the easy way out. Benner does this throughout the series and it shows here as well. Solid plotting, multidimensional characters, and brisk pacing are hallmarks of Benner's writing and are well served here. Highly recommended! Get this series and you won't be disappointed! I am looking forward to the next book in her new series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tense finale to a great series

The only thing I dislike about this entire action-packed series is that the tying up of loose ends after the final battle seems a little rushed. But that is a tiny, minor, inconsequential gripe.

The rest of it is fantastic reading, highly recommended for anyone into post apocalyptic or dystopian fiction.

If you like Fallout, Mad Max, or WOOL (or even just a fantastically tense, page-turning rocket ride of a story), you need to add this series to your reading list NOW.

Fans of Andy McNab will agree that we have finally found an author that gives him a run for his money when it comes to the pace of the writing and the almost constant state of tension.

And when you realise that Benner has only turned full-time author while writing this series, you can't help but be impressed. I for one will be keeping a close eye on her future endeavours.

5/5, would get shot at, blown up, chased, involved in shady political manoeuvring, nearly give up on life and fall in love again.
