This book is okay, not very long on descriptions, which would have made it at least 4 stars. The story was good, a bit grim, sometimes funny, but it just lacks the little pieces that make a book endearing and interesting.
One really odd part was why the heroine's aunt and uncle agreed to help the niece become a grifter and when they went home, why did they disappear from the story?they were integral for the first 3/4 of the book but then they went to their room to tidy up from their trip never to be heard from again until the last page! I liked them more than the other characters.
I kept reading because there is enough good in the book to lead you into hoping for Great.....it is not your usual romance novel, and I think a bit harsh on the heroine, sanctimonious even; we are supposed to like the heroine, not judge her.
I was surprised that the author seemed a bit snarky at times towards her heroine, if you don't like your heroine, how are we going to like her?
