5.0 out of 5 starsKeeps Getting Better and Better!

Well, I did it again. Every year I pre order Ms. Swanson's latest Scumble River mystery so I can have it on release day in September Every year I tell myself to only read a little to make it last. Got this one on the 6th and read it all on the 6th. Just too good to put down. If you have never visited Scumble River and gotten to know all the wonderful characters, you are missing a wonderful series. I think this is maybe the 18th? Not sure, but you will get hooked. The writing is awesome, the characters are believable and the solving of the crime will be a surprise--not predictable.Skye and Wally need a tv series!!!! I love cozy mysteries and this is one of my absolute favorites. I know that the author writes several new series, so I can read her work, but we need a new Scumble River more than once a year. At least I can look forward to her dime store mysteries too! Check those out!
5.0 out of 5 starsAnother Winner in a Great Series

Another Winner in Swanson's delightful Skye Denison series. I really enjoyed seeing Skye and Wally happy and experiencing the ups and downs of pregnancy together. The mystery was nifty, but the real fun is reading about the latest antics of the Scumble River residents; particularly the Red Raggers. Really enjoy Glenda and family especially the Doozier Dozer being readied for the zombie apocalypse, what a hoot. Too bad for the fancy car that got in the way--LOL
I highly recommend this entire series, the books do stand alone but reading them from the beginning let the reader appreciate the joys and strange people who inhabit Scumble River.
This book was bad, I paid $2 for the kindle version which was $2 too much. I see the book is normally $7.99 for the kindle version. The book was filled with so many useless, irrelevant details. Our heroine whines the whole book about being pregnant. she is 4 months but carries on like she is 9.5 months. Our Hero is in 40's and has concerns that he is an "older dad" Huh? He is in his 40's not 80! They live in this small town of 3000 people a few hours outside Chicago. this is #18 in the series meaning we have 18 murders in the area of this small town. Who in their right mind still lives in a small community with that much crime????????? I really should have highlighted or written down all the plot holes in this book, but then the majority of the book would have been highlighted. Since the murder didn't happen until we were 20-25% through the book, By the time it happens you pretty much have figured out who did it. Sadly i only finished to see if i was right.. In reading other reviews they the earlier books are better, I might try and earlier book to see if the writing was any better but i am not rushing out to read it.

I've often resented the "Cozy" name for this mystery category. Just because the atmosphere is pleasant rather than dark, the characters real people with normal outlooks instead of bedeviled with angst and the pacing a sprightly walk instead of a turgid crawl, the 'cozy' tag seems to regard all books in this class as fodder for the trivial and brainless. Having said that, I do think that Denise Swanson's books come close to fitting the name. They're somewhat predictable as to setting and characters and plot familiar, a happy ending assured -- but surprises are there if you look for them and the author presents the whole thing with a delightful sense of humor. This may not be the next Great American Novel, but it is what so few "Great" works are -- enjoyable fun.
Another fabulous addition to the Scrumble River Series! Skye is fighting morning sickness and the school board, well, one member of the school board. She has decided to try some innovative pet therapy with her behavior group at the elementary school and the first session doesn't end as planned.
The characters in this series ares very well developed. Even if you haven't been a reader since book one you would have no trouble picking up and jumping into the story. The plot moves along at a steady pace and leaves you wanting more.
5.0 out of 5 starsSwanson brings small-town living to life in her mystery series.

Denise Swanson does a great job of bringing small-town living to life in her Scumble River series. Growing up in a small town, I can relate to the characters. Swanson is talented in continuing to develop her characters as the series moves along.
This series reminds me a lot of Murder, She Wrote in how you can keep things interesting using a small-town setting. I will definitely be purchasing her next novel!
This is a light, well-written series. The characters in Scumble River are always fun, starting with Skye and Wally, plus kooky Trixie and the entertaining Dooziers. Add in a well-developed plot and you have a success. I never suspected the killer. I enjoy this series a lot, but the best part is the character development. Fun going along with Skye and her pregnancy. Can't wait for the next book.

Denise Swanson has me hooked. The Scumble River mysteries are a perfect read. Murder of a Cranky Catnapper was quite delightful. We've seen Skye grow and change over the nineteen books in the series. I've enjoyed seeing her relationships develop and it is satisfying seeing Skye married and starting a family with her longtime crush. Skye is a normal everyday person (minus stumbling across murders) who is relatable which is refreshing. She could be anyone of us. I highly recommend this series as well as the Dime Story Mysteries. Both are extremely entertaining. For those who would like a little more spice in their story, the Change of Heart books are just as enjoyable.
