Although I have not lived in Maine for 40 years this was a good read for me. There were enough touches of Maine to trigger memories. The ghost story itself was complex enough to hold my interest and the characters developed depth as the story unfolded. I liked that it was not a blood bath kind of horror tale but rather a psychological thriller with enough action and tension to move the story along at a good pace.
I have to say that I have quit listening to books that I may have liked because the reader was deficient in some way. I was a little leery of this new reader but I have to say that I was very pleased with her abilities. In this case the reader added a dimension to the book and that is what I like to see (and hear!).
Back to the book, though, because one of my reviews would not be complete without one suggestion and for this book, although smells played an important role in the narrative, I thought it a bit overdone.
