This book was so different and so creative and so melt-your-heart sweet, I fell in love with it and these three guys. Tom and Cass have been partners in life and in work for nine years, but they spend a lot of time apart managing their multiple restaurants. As a result, they have an open relationship and are allowed to take other lovers.
What's interesting and so well done about this situation is that there is no doubt that these two totally love each other. I loved how Garrett Leigh wrote it so that even I could feel comfortable with this situation I don't do well with "cheating" in stories and this is most definitely NOT cheating...Garrett Leigh wrote that really well, even when the guys may be having doubts about the acceptability of the situation.
Because in this book, Jake is on the scene first with Tom...a one-night stand where Jake has no clue that there even is a Cass in the picture. But Jake and Tom connect and Tom knows right away that this is a little something more. He just doesn't realize how different things are setting up to be...none of them do. And that was part of the allure of this book, too. Getting to watch the three guys navigate their joint relationships as they developed...while still maintaining the love and respect throughout the entire time.
And we have to talk about Jake's Tourettes. Wow, I really got to where I loved his ticks and how he had a different one for different emotions. I have no idea if it really works like that, but I smiled several times throughout the story because Jake would call out something and it was just such a neat insight into his state of mind. I loved him as a character at the same time my heart broke for him. He's the outsider in this triad and is so unsure about his place, but was always so aware of that and making sure that Tom and Cass got private time without him. I loved him. I also really loved how he took over the restaurant design and truly came into his own and a whole career working within Tom and Cass's company.
It all worked so well. I highly recommend this book!
Note: Something for Riptide readers. Riptide Publishing (and their formatter, L.C. Chase) does an incredibly gorgeous job of formatting their print books. Every book has it's own theme with special graphics as the chapter headings and for scene breaks. The books are beautiful and I highly recommend you buy some of your favorites in print so you can have these beauties on your bookshelf.
