Check Out by Debra Parmley is a fantastic military romance. Ms. Parmley has given us a book that is well-written and furnished it with outstanding characters. Betsy is a librarian for the public library in her town. Nash is a veteran that has a damaged eye from his time in the military and wears a patch. They have a rocky start but things smooth out quickly. Until Betsy's sister comes to visit. Nash and Betsy's story is packed with drama, action, humor, action along with some suspense and a little spice. I enjoyed reading Check Out, this story hooked me at page one. I look forward to my next book by Debra Parmley. This is a fairly quick read, perfect for those with limited reading time. Check Out is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
This is a standalone novel with an HEA. Betsy Bobbin is a small town librarian who spends most of her down time reading. She has recently met Marine veteran Nash Ware and is attracted to him, but when he asks her out, she declines because of an imminent visit from her college age baby sister. Then she learns LeAnn has a stalker who may have followed her. Nash has stayed in the background, but they finally find time for a dinner date, only to have it sabotaged by a call from a hysterical Leann, who thinks she saw her stalker in town. But surveillance tapes from store cameras show nothing. Between his PTSD and Leann's drama, Nash isn't sure where things are going with Betsy. Maybe nowhere at all. This book gets 3.5 stars.
I've read this authors books before, and like a Hallmark movie I sit down to read with great anticipation. This book took several stereotypes and made them human. A wounded veteran with PTSD, and a librarian with family issues. While they both feel a chemistry, they are both jaded, and tangling with emotions, past issues, and getting their lives onto a better path. Don't think this is a dark, tear-jerker it is not. While there is some darkness in their pasts, their futures look full of light. Of course, that road to happiness is never smooth. No spoilers here....but if you want a read with lots of substance, a bit of suspense, and the possibility of happiness where the hero and heroine never thought there would be.........Check Out is a perfect read. I highly recommend this book.
Great story about two wounded individuals finding love amidst danger. The little sister is the catalyst who brings danger into Betsy's life which brings out all of Nash's protective instincts even though he doesn't want to get involved in a relationship.
I really enjoy books that have the POV go back and forth between the main characters, Nash and Betsy, course, I think that has more to do with Nash and Betsy... What great depth and chemistry! Loved from first meeting in the library. I have a new favorite author.
He had suffered physical damage and he is dealing with PTSD, she is the big sister and forgets to key her sister act like s grownup. Her little sister has a stalker and he has followed her to her sisters hometown and tries to kidnap but thanks to him it doesn't work out.
